Mining Bitcoin at Home: Week 11 Update

in #mining8 years ago

Hello everyone!

Time flies, another week has passed by, and so it's time for another weekly update on my home mining experiment – the first one in 2017!

This has been a relatively warm winter week in Sweden, with temperatures slightly below 0˚C / 30˚F. It had a direct impact on this chips' performance: whereas under colder conditions the miner's hashrate would stay stable at 4,050–4,100 GHash/s, it is now fluctuating between 3,850 and 4,000 GHash/s. Who would have thought I'd be wishing for a colder weather, haha!

Aside from the weather, it hasn't been an exceptional week earnings-wise either. The last six bars in the table below represent Week 11. As you can see, my mining pool hasn't been particularly lucky in finding new blocks in that period:

Table 1: my daily earnings during Weeks 10 and 11 of the home mining experiment

The mining difficulty keeps increasing too, which leads to the pool finding fewer blocks on any given day. You can clearly see the combined effect of these factors in my earnings table below:

Table 2: my weekly earnings since the start of the experiment, disaggregated by mining pools

In short, not a stellar week. Let's see if the trend continues into the next week or if the earnings rebound somewhat. Still, the miner has reached another milestone: 0.2 BTC earned and thus it is only 0.075 BTC away from having paid half its price. Thank you for having read so far and stay tuned!
