Mining Bitcoin at Home: Week 9 Update

in #mining8 years ago

Hello everyone!

Tomorrow I am leaving to Finland for a few days of mini-vacation. I am going to meet some good friends and enjoy the holidays atmosphere of Helsinki (a really nice city, by the way). I will be coming back to Sweden on the 31st of December to celebrate the New Year Eve with friends in a small place between Uppsala and Stockholm. And, since I will be travelling for the most day tomorrow after work, I’m posting this update two days earlier than usual.

The biggest learning moment of the week has been the effect that overheating has on the miner’s productivity. As soon as the temperature on the miner’s back end begins to approach 80˚C / 175˚F, the hashrate drops from 4.0 Thash/s down to 3.8–3.9 Thash/s. We have been having a relatively mild weather this past week (meaning temperatures above the water-freezing point), and so I’m trying to keep the balcony door open a little wider, for the inflow of cold air.

Here comes the numbers. If this past week seems a little too shabby, that’s because: a) it only account for 5 days of the week, not the full seven; b) today my mining pool, Bitcoin.com, failed to find any blocks, which is a little unusual (it usually finds 3–5 blocks per day on average). Please consider these two circumstances, when looking at the numbers below.

Happy holidays and Happy New Year, everyone! Stay tuned for pictures and stories from the wonderful Helsinki!
