Why you need a marketing strategy

A cornerstone to any business is customers. Without customers you can’t have a business. So what is a foolproof way to attract and retain customers? Through an up to date and comprehensive marketing plan. A marketing strategy is simply a road map for your marketing. This road map serves several purposes:

Focuses your resources on your specific marketing goal

Everyone in your business will have a different opinion on how your marketing dollars should be spent, by focusing you can take each view point into account and decide upon the correct action to take.

Concentrate on what needs to be done

After you have decided upon what your goals are for your marketing you have to concentrate on what needs to be done in order to achieve them. Take stock of the resources you have available and decide upon the best course of action

Makes sure you and your staff are all on the same page

Quite simply you can have a great strategy, but if your employees don’t know about it or more importantly don’t know how to implement the strategy, what good is it?

Now you know what a marketing strategy is and why it is important to achieving your marketing goals. We are now going to talk about what your marketing strategy is built of. The four parts of the strategy are:

Determining your target market

If you think everyone is your customer than no one is your customer. In order to market effectively you need to be specific about who you target

Determine what you want from your marketing efforts

Once you know who you are marketing you need to know why you are targeting them. What can you do for them? What will you expect in return? (more than just a sale, how will they help you grow your business?)

Determine how you are going to get in front of your customer’s face

Don’t start listing off how you are going to advertise, instead think of where your customer is, what they like to do, basically how do they spend their time. How can you capitalize on that? Are you positioned correctly so you can take advantage of your customers habits?

Once you have their attention what are you going to do with it?

Now is the time to describe what you are going to do when you see a response. What will you offer them? How can you turn them for a casual glance or look at your service into a customer?

Just remember to start small. Take the time to determine the correct target market because you might have a great product, but if your product is no use to your audience, what’s the point? After you have determined your market be sure to plan your positioning. Once those two important things are done you can move on to the other elements and begin creating your plan
