Rescuing Christmas cakes & FOOD from CONTAINERS! :)
Simple math:
Christmas = more cakes in shops = more cakes not being bought = more cakes being thrown into the trash bins on Saturday = more cakes for Martin on Sunday
Hah, I don't even know what to write now. It just summarizes the whole post :D Some of you might know that I'm a passionate trashdiver AKA I love to eat food from containers. It's not about money. It's about fun and some general approach to life I'd say :)
Battle plan
Christmas time = trashdivers' paradise
We all do it. Even I do. Christmas is the time when buying more than we need is not frowned upon that much. At the end of the day - "It's christmas..". That means huuuge increase on the buyers side and therefore huuuge increase on the orders of supermarkets. I'm not sure if the ration of sold/thrown out changes, but the absolute amount of food being thrown into trash is deffinitely at the all year's high in December! (AYH might be a new trading term btw :D)

Innsbruck has been freeeeezing last couple of days. We even had 5 minutes longer warmup on Wednesday wrestling practice just to be sure we're warm enough haha :D No joke tho, the trainer really told us to have a longer one :D Back to the topic tho...Even -12 degrees didn't stop 2 of the best trashdrivers in the town from getting what they deserve!

That was my answer when Nacho asked about the bags to not make our backpacks messy. Of course I've forgotten the second I told him I'll take some. So we had to improvise :) Opening paper container offered us some nice porfolio of "bags" :D
Trashdiver's six-pack :D
While Nacho was hunting for sweet stuff, I tried to get some veggies or fruits. There wasn't that many of those but I've found some at the end :)
This is what separates championship level trashdivers from journeymen
You open the container and see this. What do you do? Probably feel disgusted and close it ASAP. But what the best of the best see, is the opportunity and they (we) jump on it :)
There's sooo much good stuff hidden there!
I told you! ;) Strawberry creat 500g cake. Price - 8$. Still edible for 2 next days (+ probably next couple of days on your own risk :D I'd take it tho!)
Plus there was many many maaany more. We didn't even take 50% of what was in there. No need to as we won't eat it anyway. On our way home, we even dropped off some cakes and baguettes at homeless shelter. Hope the rest of the trashdive crew wasn't lazy on this cold evening and rescued the rest!
Message to all of you!
I know these were the containers of a supermarket. But the problem is, even regular families throw out soo much food during Christmas. Don't do that. There are many homeless shelters around in your city. Just bring the food over there. It's easy, convenient and makes you feel better about yourself :) That's also what we've done on our way home. Then, once you feel good about yourself, you can enjoy the cake like we did :)) And it doesn't even have to be from the container :D
Fruits of our labor
Oh yeah, Christmas is here and sugar dosage needs to be ramped up to avoid the shock on 24th :D I've started to work on it :) What would you choose - strawberry cake or bleuberry cake with poppy seeds? Or oats, berries and joghurt maybe?
Or maybe you already had enough of sweet stuff and want the "Kaese knoedel" soup ?:) Containers offer wide variety of stuff :D You can see these "Knoedels" on the upper photo. Those were couple of days after expiry tho :D But expiry date is overrated anyway :D

Awesome !!! I would totally do that in Europe . Here you already buy stuff past the date in our little Chinese supermarket lol. Joke aside it’s a great thing you did giving stuff to the homeless shelter. That bread looks delicious!

Hahah the point with chinese market :D yupp we always do it on our way home in winter...it's exactly on the on our path soo we just drop the stuff in front of the door and I guess they find it. We don't hand over it to any officials there.

I've been watching and reading more and more about dumpster/trash diving over the last month or so. I'm so amazed at what stores will toss out.
Yupp it really is sad. As said, we've lft soo much stuff there cuz we had our backpack full already.
MMMM.... I love Knoedels, but I"m not sure I would drag them out of a bin... IT's all in my head, but it's really hard to shake!

Hah, it deffo is in your head only :) these were 5 days after expirty date and yummy as eever :D Altho after the expiry is kind of my thing only..I like to do stupid stuff sometimes..But if it's only in the bin and still 2 days officially edible, there's literally nothing bad with it. Look, they throw it out there around 7pm. It's packed in the plastic. At 9pm we're there and take it all out. I mean..it's the same as if you just took it from the shelve in the shop but without paying :) Where'r you from btw? Oh I see, Netherlands
