Can your hobby become your career?
Who doesn’t get confused when we were young? Confusion is the problem that every young person will face.
In the rapid development of society today, there are getting more and more different type of job to choose from, this is a good thing, but also a bad thing.
The good is that we have more choices, more freedom of space; the bad is when there are more choices, many people do not know what to choose.
Since we were young, because of school education, social environment, and other reasons, we don’t know what we like.
Some people say: “I like to play games”, but I can tell you that playing games can only be a pastime, not your true interest at all.
Otherwise, if you train for more than 10 hours a day just like a professional gamer, do you think you're still interested in the gaming?
So what does it mean by real interest? How interest translates into a career?
What are the characteristics of these real interests?
The next content may be difficult, but it will be helpful to everyone.
High thinking participation
The so-called “high thinking participation” is not from the instinctive behavior (such as eating, chatting, etc.), instinctive behavior doesn’t need much thinking.
The real interest, whose behavior usually requires a high thinking participation.
The following activities all require a strong thinking participation and may also be a real interest such as writing, composing, painting, playing chess and so on. Basically, it means things that require you to think a lot.
Different thrill and long durations
When you're engaged in activities that you're really interested in, you'll usually experience a different kind of thrills. This thrill is your motivation.
The real interest lasts for many years, and the reason for that is the thrill.
The so-called thrill, divided into two categories: "process of thrill" and "The result of thrill."
Their difference is the that "process of thrill," last longer but not high intensity; "The result of thrill" occurs only in a short period of time, but the intensity is very high.
I always enjoy it when I am writing a post. In other words, the mere "process of writing" can make me feel happy.
This is the "process of thrill". When the post is finally finished, the feeling I experienced is the "result of thrill."
Another example is that you don't like your job, you are unhappy with the work process, and you will only be happy when you get paid for your job, this is not really an interest.
The "process of thrill", although not strong, but also important, this kind of thrill allows you to engage in long-term activities that you like, even when you have not yet achieved the results of the stage.
Comes from the bottom of your heart
The real interest, the motivation, entirely comes from your heart, not from the outside world. (such as utilitarian factors, external coercion.)
Do you know who invented the microscope? It was invented by a chamberlain from the countryside!
The chamberlain, named Leeuwenhoek, was born in a family in Delft, Dutch Republic. His father died early and his family was poor. At the age of 16, he became a bookkeeper's apprentice at a linen draper's shop in Amsterdam. He later became a chamberlain in the city Hall of Delft.
It can be said that his earlier life, is unrelated to science.
In an accidental opportunity, he learned that Amsterdam (the largest city in the Netherlands) has a lot of glasses shops, other than polished lenses, also polished magnifying glass.
"With a magnifying glass, you can see the small things magnified, and let you see clearly, extremely marvelous." Leeuwenhoek slowly gains interest in the microscope.
Since then, Leeuwenhoek has used his ample time to grind the lenses patiently, a few years later, the microscope made by Leeuwenhoek, not only becoming more and bigger, but also more and more sophisticated and more perfect, so that the small things can be magnified to two hundred or three hundred times.
Later, the Leeuwenhoek found microbes and became a famous scientist ...
Continuous self-improvement
If a certain activity is your real interest, then you will not be satisfied with the "stay in the psychological comfort zone", you will continue to learn new knowledge in that field. This is why playing games is not a real interest, at most is a pastime, an entertainment.
Because most people play games just to relax and not desperately improve their skills.
Of course, breaking the psychological comfort zone is not necessarily easy, sometimes even difficult.
But in the process of breaking through, the "process of thrill" will accompany you; Once you achieve a breakthrough, you will get “the result of thrill.
On the contrary, what is not a real interest?
Things that don’t require you to think is not the real interest
This is most commonly mistaken for interest, and strictly for pleasure only. For example, surfing the internet, watching TV series, playing games and so on. Because these kinds of behaviors belong to the "doesn’t require thinking".
Many of these actions are meant to pass the time and not be a real interest.
Pure sensory stimulation-induced behavior (animal instinct)
What we call real interest, only humans have it, animals don’t. And the behavior that arises from the stimulation of the senses, including the human being, is found in all animals. Therefore, the behavior that relies on the stimulation of the senses is not really an interest.
In fact, this is called animal instinct, such as bath, eat, and so on. Because eating and physical needs are animal instincts, it’s innate. This also includes "passive behavior", such as listening to music while working.
So what are the benefits of having a real interest?
Happier
This is one of the most significant effects. The "thrill" that I mentioned earlier. It will make you feel happier.
Full and interesting life
With real interests/hobbies, there is usually no need to find something to "pass the time".
You can devote a lot of time to studying the things you like.
In contrast to those who do nothing all day are lack of real interest and hobbies, so can only rely on entertainment to pass the time, so their days are very boring.
Achieve success in career
You can even change your "interest" and become your "career" so that your "work" and "entertainment" together.
You will no longer have the difference between "working hours " and "spare time". Whether it is 'working hours ' or ' spare time ', both are ' entertainment time ' for you.
Isn't that cool?
In this way, you have a real interest in your job, it is become easy to turn into a successful career.
In fact, figuring out what you really interested in, making money comes second, a lot of people sharpen their brains to make money but did not find their interests, in the end, exhaust themselves.
So when you find your real interest, it can also be said to find your ideal place, when the ideal and the reality combine together (hobbies as work), whether it is work or career will become smoother.
