Anything for a good nights rest

Did you know that Amazon’s Echo Dot has a new skill where it plays audio of a thunderstorm to help you fall asleep? I sure didn’t and before today, I wouldn’t have even considered using it.

I’ve acquired some nasty habits these past two nights and it’s due to my stubbornness. My body was showing signs of fatigue but I ignored it. I continued my regular routine convinced that I’d be able to rest later, no problem. Well, I screwed myself over. Because I had continued to wake myself up when my body was begging for sleep, my brain was now fully active.

A silent, pitch black room is ideal but not realistic when you have a family living in the city. I tried a hot bath, melatonin, classical music, reading a book and having a film play in the background. Eventually, I did doze off for an hour but then the smallest sound would boot me from dreamland.

I was reaching the edge when @kommienezuspadt suggested that we try this new skill that he installed weeks ago (with me in mind) for our Echo Dot. Like I mentioned right at the start of this post, it was an audio recording of a thunderstorm. It seems silly but it works. The soothing white noise canceled out all the other sounds and I was asleep before I knew it.

Right now I actually have it on loop and I’m looking forward to a good rest.




Now, others might not have to resort to my extremes but I’m curious to know what methods put you to sleep.

I cover my eyes and try to keep my body still without any movement, this will give the brain a signal that the body i asleep so you basically trick your brain to sleep. hehe :)

I’ve tried that method but it doesn’t work for me. That’s great that it works for you though!

maybe fire a joint so you'll fall asleep after the munchies! :D

I do fall asleep to background noise. If it’s silent my mind will wander and I stay awake overthinking! However the sound can’t be anything I actually will want to pay attention to... so my go to “white noise” is pulling up old tv shows I’ve seen a million times and having them on low in the background.

Omgosh! I’m like that too sometimes! If I feel overwhelmed and can’t seem to calm my mind then I’ll run through thoughts the whole night. I tend to play old Pixar movies or documentaries. What I should do is play audiobooks!

I should probably do the melatonin thing but I'm unreasonably stubborn. Basically what works (to some value of works XD) for me is to just lie there til all the thoughts have processed themselves.

Honestly, melatonin doesn’t really work on me. My body fights against any type of medication that makes you drowsy. Maybe it’s because I’m also stubborn! 😆 I wish I could process all my thoughts like you. It could just be my Aquarius nature but my thoughts seem to be limitless!

I’m still using the storm recordings and what’s funny is that it’s been naturally storming outside anyway!

Trust me, I know. I don't usually finish processing them, just fall asleep doing so. Boring myself to sleep in such a fashion doesn't always work, sometimes I'm staring at my partner all night (least I got something nice to look at when insomnia hits hard XD).

There are apps for that for your phone and computer as well.

I don't use the dot and other services like that because it scares the shit out of me. There's enough risk as it is with normal phones and TV's and computers. Dots and other devices like that are made to listen to you. It's scary.

I’m pretty sure I’ve caught the Dot listening to me several times because it always seems to perk up when it thinks it’s been called! Kinda creepy but it’s still around.

Just make sure you check your account occasionally to see what it's recorded. I'm pretty sure there's some kind of folder or something hidden somewhere in the settings of Amazon.

I think you have a few hours of sleep but you can not sleep as you want because it is like what you did during the day you reflect it in the night and it becomes a bit a little bad.

This I did not know! you are better now? How have you been these days?
The music of mozart worked for me, but in the last days it did not do it, I was drawing and I think many worries I slept very badly, I jumped out of bed and gave many laps, the heart was accelerating a little. :(

Sorry to hear that you’ve been sleeping poorly too! My sleep schedule is up and down. Some night are better than other and sometimes I get the opportunity to nap in the day. I hope you’re able to ease your mind and rest well dear yanes! <3
