This Is A Very Special Baby Book

in #life7 years ago

Three years ago my husband and I thought we would never be parents, we were diagnosed with unexplained fertility and the treatments we were given never worked. We were heartbroken. This is when we decided to look in to adoption. Volunteering at a home for abandoned babies is what truly opened our hearts to adoption and once we decided that that's how we wanted to grow our family, it all made sense, we were meant to adopt our children - it felt right!

We started the paperwork, the counselling sessions and the trips to court. We were very lucky to have an amazing social worker who assisted us every step of the way and who worked hard to place all of the children who came her way into loving homes. One of the steps you have to take to be added to the adoption "waiting list" is for your social worker to do a home visit and check. This was the most stressful part of the process for me - we were only living in a one bedroom apartment at the time, what if she found fault with our home!?

On the day that she did the home visit, nearly every thing went wrong. Her flight to us was delayed and once we picked her up from the airport we had to rush her to our home, where she could only spend 40 minutes with us there before we had to rush her back to the airport. To make things worse, we got stuck in traffic taking her back to the airport and she missed her flight! I felt terrible! I was a ball of anxiety and stress the whole day!

To help me relax, my husband took me to the airport stores and said we should buy something for our baby-to-be, as a symbol of our faith and positivity that we will soon be parents. Shopping always relaxes me and I loved the idea of buying baby goods, that was something I longed to do! We went from shop to shop and finally at the book store I found something that I thought was a perfect way to symbolize the day - something POSITIVE! I found this adorable Baby Journal, a keepsake book where you can record moments with your little one, it was so beautiful, we bought it on the spot!

Guess what...4 weeks after the home visit and purchase of our baby journal, we were matched with a beautiful 4 month old baby boy. We became parents!! I like to believe it was our faith that lead us to that moment. I started writing in this baby journal the moment we got the call to say our son was waiting to meet us, and recently, I completed all of the entries. It's a very special book to me, it highlights the most special days of my life, and my husband's too. I'd like to share some of the pages with you.

Here's one of the first photos that I added:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We didn't have a pregnancy announcement, we had an "adoption announcement", we wanted the whole world to know that we were adopting and that we were going to become parents no matter what!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Once our little boy was home with us then the fun began and I could add all his milestones and characteristics to the book - he did so many cute things I started running out of writing space! We also had many visitors who came to see our little chap, a few of them left message for him in his journal too (they mean the world to us).

Things About Baby

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I know most parents never finish their baby books, it really is so difficult to add your entries when the kid in questions is keeping you on your toes for the most part of the day. But it was very important for me to keep the journal up to date and to complete all the sections to the best of my ability - the book is very sentimental to me.

I would like to end off with one last picture. This is a photo of my son's hand, he was about 8 months old here. The smiley face on his hand is the symbol used to acknowledge Adoption Month, which is celebrated in November every year.

One more thing "Volunteering at a home for abandoned babies is what truly opened our hearts to adoption and once we decided that that's how we wanted to grow our family, it all made sense, we were meant to adopt our children - it felt right!"

Great sentiment to read first thing in the morning. Made me the best kind of teary-eyed.

Thank you so much for your kind words. I really love how we started our family. I know my sons start in life wasn't the best, but I know that as a family we can all surpass the hardships. And glad you now know about adoption month, I plan to make a big thing about it this November, maybe even start a related "adoption and family" contest here on Steemit!
