Why mass shooting is increasing in the world, especially in America?

in #life7 years ago (edited)

Gun Massacres are increasing in the world specially in America.Massive Shooting is defined as when there are 4 or more victims of gun shooting and don't include gang killings or slayings that involve the death of multiple family members. United States comes at No 1 position in mass shooting comparing with any other country in the world, according to a study published recently. In American history Las Vegas Attack was deadliest (at least 57 killed), and 10 years ago 2007 Virginia Tech massacre (31 killed) and before a year the second-deadliest shooting, the Orlando nightclub shooting. There are almost 30 deadliest mass shooting from 1049 to till date and 17 have occurred in the last 10 years.

But what is the reason behind these Massacres? One of the reason and biggest reason is America owns more guns as compare to any other country in the world. According to a report America has 270 million guns in 2007 and that is enough for every weapon for adult and still there will be many left. And it makes America the No. 1 country in firearms per capital. More than half case the shooter had more than one firearm.

The other factors which causes these Massacres are the Mental illness, Copy cat Phenomena and desire for fame. Many of the shooters in the United States were mentally ill. But other studies have shown that the estimated number of cases of mental illness hasn't gone up significantly while the number of mass shootings in the U.S. has skyrocketed. The copycat phenomenon is More happened in the United States because guns are more easily available than other countries. Some researchers believe these mass killings can be contagious One killing or shooting increases the chances that others will occur within about two weeks . We all know that terrorist want fame they want to terrorize the world about what they do so the fame seeking rampage shooters will attempt to kill even more victims. What perhaps is most frighting is that if offenders can kill more people and get more fame, the next may try to find new ways to get attention.

I think guns are the weapon of choice for those who want to kill a lot of people in the U.S because they are available. Where guns are less available, you see more things like improvised explosive devices or people simply ramming crowds of people with a vehicle. I don't think it is particularly useful to compare only mass shootings. Comparing "mass killings" (or however you want to say it), regardless of weapon choice, makes more sense. Otherwise the implication is that simply making guns unavailable will solve the problem and I do not believe that is the case.

"especially in America"

I could easily say ONLY in America (United States), that type of attacks are rare in other countries, in comparison. In some countries that actually NEVER happens.

I think we really need to look at a third factor, which you kind of hit on at the end of your post. I think if we are going to be open to the idea of lessening rights, we should really look at limiting the effects of the first amendment with regard to notorious killings. To begin with, we should considering outlawing the public release of the name of any killings. I think that would be more effective, and easier than tracking down 270 million guns.
