Thirty-One Days
Urgent. Our devoted transport driver had a serious accident. She is just ok. We have 7 dogs in urgent need of transport to Vt ASAP from Crossville Al. Who can help us please?
That message appeared on my Facebook feed about three hours south of Molly’s Place rescue on Friday afternoon. There is no way I could just ignore it. The poster was our Vermont rescue partners, and I know the transporter who had the accident as well. Fortunately she is okay--banged up, but nothing serious--and the dogs on board were all uninjured. That left the seven she hadn’t yet picked up, and they needed a ride.
I looked at Colleena (@arrelaine13) and she looked at me. We just knew we had to go get those dogs.
Plans changed on a dime. No more thoughts of snoring in our beds by midnight. We put the car in high gear and headed to Crossville.
It just so happens that I have a friend in Birmingham who let us nap at her home for a few hours before picking up the seven stranded dogs. It also happens that she is the one who will be flying to Paris with me at the end of this countdown, and the one who adopted Midnight, who is fostering my dog Princess until I can come get her. So the trip accomplished more than just uniting seven rescued Alabama dogs with new families. It also gave me a chance to swing by the rescue in Virginia to pick up Midnight and Princess, then deliver them to Martia so she could introduce them to her pack.
After resting a bit, we drove an hour and a half north to Crossville, Alabama, where we picked up the Stranded Seven. It was a squeeze getting them in the Journey, but we managed. (By the way, HUGE thanks to @steemhousepub for unanimously approving use of the Steemhouse car for this transport. Steemhouse Publishing will always have a hand in charity projects, particularly those involving animals.)
We’ll give you an update in 1,200 miles.

Oh does the universe work in mysterious ways. I know how much you need rest. I also know how dedicated you are to helping animals, and I'M SO GLAD!!! Thank you for all you do. I'm thrilled that these pups are getting to where they need to go, and am overjoyed each time one finds its forever home.
