RedBull Air Race returns to my hometown, Budapest!
Every summer RedBull Air Race comes to Budapest. It was on the weekend of 1-2, July this year.
What is RedBull Air race?
The Red Bull Air Race, established in 2003 and created by Red Bull GmbH, is an international series of air races in which competitors have to navigate a challenging obstacle course in the fastest time. Pilots fly individually against the clock and have to complete tight turns through a slalom course consisting of pylons, known as "Air Gates".
The races are held mainly over water near cities, but are also held at airfields or natural wonders. They are accompanied by a supporting program of show flights. Races are usually flown on weekends with the first day for qualification then knockout finals the day after. The events attract large crowds and are broadcast, both live and taped, in many nations.
At each venue, the top eight places earn World Championship points. The air racer with the most points at the end of the Championship becomes Red Bull Air Race World Champion.
After a three-year hiatus for safety improvements and reorganization, the Air Race resumed in 2014.[1] There are eight stops planned between February and November.[2]
The Red Bull Air Race Word Championship is broadcast live and globally on Red Bull TV.

My opinion about this event:
This is great, well organized event. I'm glad Budapest host events like this every summer. However, not everyone is happy with it. The planes are extremely loud, you can barely hear anything besides them in this whole weekend. Doesn't matter if you are nearby the track or few kilometers away.
A lot of people the government to suspend this event, but it won't happen probably.

Budapest is an awesome city for sure! It's also a great holiday destination in Europe because it's really cheap. The city is nice, and there are some many great building architectural wise (it's probably an incorrect form, sorry for that).
There are many events like this during the summer as well.

That's funny because one of my great friend lives in Rotterdam and he never heard of it before.
Some historical fact: One of the "founder" of this race is Peter Bessenyei, a Hungarian retired RedBull AirRace competitor. This is the reason behind Budapest being host every year.
Its been a while, last time was 2008 already. Ooh ok that makes for a great link between Budapest and the race indeed.
