How can $50 SBD ripping through the fabric of time like a giant wave help your homestead?

in #life7 years ago (edited)

Cause and Effect. I love this topic. It is mind boggling how one action can affect so much, not just for days or years, but for all of eternity.

So how could $50 SBD forever change or improve your homestead? Depending on your income bracket, it could seem like a whole day's earnings allowing you to build a new chicken coop or some new cold frames for your garden. To other people, it might only seem like one night's dinner eating out. People spend their money in different ways.

But if you are like me, then you like to see how the money you spend can affect change. As I mentioned, I love the topic of cause and effect. I like to see how sprinkling a little bit of influence here, and a little bit there, can make big changes later on. This is also known as the butterfly effect.

Simple actions can make big changes

Here is just one example, if you know this about history:

What if Anthony Bessemer had not met his wife Elizabeth? What if by circumstance she had not favored him, and as a result they never married and had their son Henry? If it had not been for those fateful series of seemingly common events of marriage and childbirth, we would not have the Bessemer process. Or could it have been invented by someone else? Who knows?

It was by this process that enabled steel to be produced efficiently in mass quantities. How would our bridges and skyscrapers look today without it? Would we even have skyscrapers? What would cars be like today? Would we have cars? What about the steel transmission towers that carry high voltage power lines delivering electricity in countries all around the world? What about the electricity? What if electricity had not been discovered, or computers invented? What if Bill Gates never acquired DOS?

What would you be doing today?

Everything that each of us does has an effect that lasts forever, no matter how simple, or how insignificant you may think it is.

That is why I have decided to take on this challenge presented by @greenacrehome to win $50 SBD

The challenge is simple. Explain what you would do with $50 on your homestead.

Well, unfortunately I don't have a physical homestead at the moment. I am currently selling my Idaho retreat for greener pastures. So my homestead right now is digital. But the contest also asks for something Lasting and Tangible that the winner would do with the money.

"Lasting" is simple enough to explain, and is why used the Butterfly Effect as an example.

Anything we do with any amount of money is going to be "lasting"

It's the "Tangible" part that is a bit more difficult to quantify, because if I win, I won't be using the earnings to build a rabbit hutch or an amazing worm farm or even this awesome outdoor kitchen to cook my favorite pizza.

@Preppers is a content curation account. That's mostly all I do with this account. Resteem, upvote, and offer comments of encouragement to the community. So there is only one place that money would go should I win it. It would remain right here on Steemit.com in the form of $10 SBD to use for services like @Randowhale and @Minnowsupport to help boost a few more of your posts and $40 of it to be converted to Steem power to improve the influence of my upvotes.

How can that become "tangible"? Well that depends. If this post on brittle eggs helps you to feed chickens better so that they grow healthier eggs, I would consider that tangible. Or maybe this idea for an herbal medicine chest might become a tangible project for someone to do at home. Ideas become words. Words become content. Content has the power to inspire. Inspiration begets amazing, tangible and useful things.

So, should I win, while my winnings wouldn't go directly to a physical object or project, it most assuredly would go on to help inspire ideas that will become tangible.

And if I don't win? I'm happy to participate in this contest anyway.

That $50 SBD prize will still inspire others in this community, in their projects, no matter who the winner is. Somebody is going to put it to use in their project. Then they'll probably write about it. When they do, they'll be sharing what they've done in this community, thereby inspiring more people.

Whoever wins, everyone will benefit. Everyone will be affected in some way, and those benefits will last forever though time.

Thank you @greenacrehome for offering this opportunity to the preppers and homesteading communities.

I'm actually a little bit lost for words! What an eloquently written piece!

You've really struck on how important community is and how in that setting what you give you also receive. It reminds me of the farmer who shared his award winning corn with his neighbours because if they grew inferior corn it would pollinate his own fields and make his own inferior. So in order to get the best yourself you share it. A concept that many don't seem to understand any more.

Well at least that's what I got from this. No point in me even trying to enter after this! 😂

Of course you should enter. Competition also has it's role in inspiration.

Again, eloquently put. It's a shame you don't write more! I'll look forward to when you do get your place and start sharing with us.

I completely agree, @preppers: Each action has a rippling effect on others, and the rest of the world. So finding a way for the same amount to have the maximum effect would be the way to go. Beautifully written article, by the way. I enjoyed reading it.

Hello @preppers,
I feel that you are right about the ideas that you share on Steemit being tangible. Through sharing our experiences and knowledge on this site we can all help each other to better ourselves. What is more tangible than using what you learn to become a better prepper/homesteader/person? Really nothing because the things we do for others far outweigh those things we do for ourselves. Those are the things that can really change the world for the better.
Yes building a worm farm or rabbit hutch has a lasting effect, but teaching others to do those things is even more valuable!
Thanks for sharing this post & good luck in the competition!
