PROCASTINATION KILLS DREAMS
Procrastination is a killer disease, it kills faster than any kind of deadly disease you can ever think of or imagine and so many of us have lost our parts, dreams, ambitions, future and careers in life as a result of procrastination.
Procrastination is a setback, it involves the avoidance of doing a task which needs to be completed or accomplished, delaying an action to a later time with the mindset that there will be more and much more time to get whatever you want done later.
As every year begins most people list out lots and lots of resolutions they want to achieve or accomplish but how many of us have or can boost of actualizing all or any of them in the years past not because one does not have the enthusiasm, desire, skills or knowledge or certification or experience but as a result of procrastination.
Procrastination is a great hindrance and delay to success, it gives you hope that there is still time to get what you want done. So many times we tell ourselves that our tomorrow will be greater than today forgetting that today is that tomorrow we talk about every second counts in life. Time they say waits for no man.
George Clarkson said opportunity is like a hot goddess that does not waste time in an unprepared mind.
REASONS AND EXCUSES WHY PEOPLE PROCRASTINATE
Feeling of not been perfect--- When you feel you can’t get it right and afraid of failure it keeps you from doing things or even given it a try.
When you are lazy--- laziness is the commonest reason why we keep putting things off and not getting them done, you keep telling yourself I will get it done much later.
When you lack commitment --- when you have a pending job and you have given someone your word to get it done knowing well in your heart you will not do it means you are not committed.
You don’t feel like doing it--- When discouragements set in and you have to face unpleasant tasks, the motivation to carry out the task is not there which is the reason for procrastination.
When you don’t know how to start--- when you find it difficult to start something you don’t know how and where to start from or have not done it before and you feel starting will not bring you any progress, procrastination then sets in.
Fear of not succeeding--- when you find it hard to believe you can’t achieve what you want done the fear of success sets in and which opens the door to procrastination.
You have lack motivation--- when everything around you discourages you and you lack the zeal to go ahead of a task. Plays a huge part in procrastination. There are certain tasks we feel obligated to do, but don’t really want to, procrastinate.
When you lack focus---when you don’t give yourself full attention to something you want to achieve it becomes certainly difficult for the best to come out of it. Distractions are a great hindrance.
When you are under stress--- when you are way too tired to get things done, excuses don’t pay bills and you know it, you are not helping yourself by putting off what you need to get done.
When you lack committed---when you have a job to be done and you have given someone your word to get something done knowing well in your heart you will not do it, means you are not committed.
When a negative mind sets it ---when you have a mindset that everything around you seems impossible to you.
When you lack self-control--- when you tend to get distracted and you can’t stop working every time something shiny walks by, you need to assume responsibility and understand that you can’t waste time unimportant things.
When you don’t set your priorities right---when you don’t prioritize your task to be done as not all tasks are created equal and have to put what is more important, what is worth putting first done you may be making a fatal mistake of wasting time on irrelevant tasks, instead of working on the most important ones.
When you care less---when you just don’t care much about the task you have at hand and what happens when it’s not done, you don’t actually care, People find it difficult to admit this. That’s how problem of procrastination comes down.
When you can’t live your comfort zone---We live for comfort, right? We like things to be easy, familiar, and comfortable, and anything that leaves that zone automatically makes us feel uneasy, so anyone will feel a bit anxious or apprehensive when they’re outside their comfort zone. However, what you also have to remember is that without stepping outside your comfort zone, it is impossible for you to evolve or grow. This is just an opportunity for you to test your limits and demonstrate that you can do the job, so take it as a challenge.
COMMON LIES PROCRASTINATORS TELL THEMSELVES
- It is not my fault I was unable to get the work done.
- It is beyond my control.
- I don’t feel like doing it now but I can always get it done later.
- I have lost interest because I have been working on it for long now.
- I don’t have to be in a hurry there is still time.
- I am not sure of how to start this task.
- I will spend less time on the task if I postpone it until the last minute.”
- It was not my fault.
- It's beyond my control.
The earlier you start implementing your plans the better and faster you achieve your goals. Procrastination is the thief of time because time lost cannot be regained.
