@maninayton - 4.4 Magnitude Earthquake In California - A Prelude To Something Bigger?

in #life7 years ago

Map showing the site of the 4.4 magnitude earthquake. the yellow dots are sites of smaller quakes within the past 30 days

On Thursday 4th January 2018 at 10.39 UTC a 4.4 magnitude earthquake hit 2 kilometres south-east of Berkeley California. This is the largest quake to have struck this particular five-mile section of the Hayward fault in the past ten years according to USGS geologist David Schwartz.

In the state of California there have been 629 earthquakes over the last 30 days.

There are concerns that this could be the prelude to something larger. A major quake of magnitude 7 or greater on the West Coast would be devastating both in terms of loss of life and economic damage.

It isn’t a case of if this will happen, it is a case of when.

Flood, fire, and now the earthquake?
This doesn't sound too well...

It is not a place I would like to live in at the moment I must admit.
