The Pains of Being a Catalyst to Change

in #life8 years ago (edited)

Perhaps you caught my article yesterday that called out the ridiculously juvenile (my opinion) "steemygames" posts being perpetuated by the @steemsports & @steemgames projects. If you missed the madness feel free to click on the image below and check out the article I wrote:

Now, Admittedly I jumped the gun on one of the points I made in this article and didn't do proper diligence nor research before making the claims I did and ended up making myself look like a bit of a jack-ass.. Such is @KLYE. However, regardless of my partial fumble of the article I'd written the change I'd hoped to see has started. Making the flagging, loss of support and stressful day yesterday more than worth it. Check out a screencap of the front page:

Notice anything different about it to weeks prior? I sure do. No longer is @steemsports dominating 4 / 5 slots of the trending page. While I can't help but feel a bit wounded from receiving severe flagging' for opening my mouth and speaking my opinion what I set out to do has been accomplished, and with that I take a bow and all the praise and hatred that comes with it. Simply put: @steemsports your bullying & threats doesn't work on me.

Regardless on how you feel on the matters regarding @steemsports / @steemgames in time perhaps the entire community will realize I'd gladly martyr myself, my future upvotes and my popularity for what I believe is in the best interest of the community. You can count on it.

Lets Make Some Things Clear

I am NOT anti @steemsports / @steemgames nor am I against them operating on the STEEM blockchain. The folks who created these projects aren't bad people in my opinion and although they may have pushed some game types I don't agree with condemning them isn't something I'm capable of. Many users have taken it upon themselves to think that I'm against these projects and their creators, this simply is not true. I applaud the creators of these projects for daring to think outside the box and do something different! What I am against however, is pitting STEEM users against each other in any way shape or form in regards to shallow beauty contests which serve no purpose, other than to make the post creators rich and distribute minuscule amounts of STEEM to players at the possible cost of the feelings and self esteem of the users being featured..

"You have enemies? Good. That means you've stood up for something, sometime in your life."

-Winston Churchill

Immortalized above on our STEEM Blockchain are the words of the great late Winston Churchill who served as Prime Minister of the UK through world war II. This quote has always resonated deeply with me, likely because it's incredibly true in all respects of life.

I've stood up for what I believe in, perhaps at the cost of some popular vote and potential income.. but you know what? I'd do it all over again. Why? Because at the end of the day if you sit there and let a problem bother you and do nothing about it, YOU are half the problem.

Only a small percentage of people on this planet are capable of truly shaping the world around them. All humans are capable of it, but very few achieve it.. These people are what I call fate shapers. Now if you believe in fate or not is irrelevant at this point, simply because I call them one thing that you may not believe in doesn't change their validity.. I believe the rest of the english speaking world calls them "Movers & Shakers". I'm one of them, and I act in what I think the best interest of the future of STEEM and it's users.

The Cost of Change

Overnight I lost a number of powerful autovoting whale blessings by the look of it. By the look of it nearly 40% of my normal posting rewards received automatically have evaporated.

All I've got to say in regards to that is:

"lol, bunch of man-panties"

To all those whom decided to stop supporting me:

I will be successful regardless of your upvotes.

Why?

What I post on here has value.

Be it comedy, politics, helping, reviews or whistleblowing on things I think aren't right.

To all those whom still support me:

You're the Reason I STEEM

Don't worry, you also gather few new users which like me set you as a witness ;)

Overnight I lost a number of powerful autovoting whale blessing by the look of it.

To be honest.. that is actually ok. That is some kind of proof, that they from time to time reevaluate their auto-upvote settings. It would be much worse if people which do not agree with someone would still vote for that person.

I believe, that next problem which we have to fight is... auto-upvoting. It has nothing in common with real feedback and real support. I guess there are a lot of people which would prefer one honest comment rather than 100 auto-upvotes without any sign, that actually anyone care...

Nah man. I ain't worried. To be honest I feel pretty damn happy with how all of this ended up.

I see the problems with autovoting.. But I use it myself in order to help support people I figure need it on the network.. Would be double edged blade for me.. :/ I do agree whale's using auto-vote should CERTAINLY keep an eye on the content they're supporting though.

BTW, this is what you have just earned :)

Reversed engendered from @elyaque's badges, and hand made by me for you :)

Hell yeah! I am the ball!

Thanks man. That's neat and put a smile on my face. Much appreciated. :)

That's awesome , I love it ! 👍😉

Hi @noisy :) I read your comment and I've heard similar sentiments but after some thought, I don't think the auto-voting is the problem. Most of the money people make on their posts comes from that from what I can see, and those who would comment on that post will do so regardless of the auto-votes. As long as the people doing the auto-voting make a point of checking out the content of the accounts they have on their list on some kind of regular basis. If I were in a position to, (and perhaps someday I will be since my husband and I are discussing a potential investment into steemit), I would use a bot to vote when I was unable to do so manually. I say this even though I'm really big on reading the content I vote on as well as commenting on most of them, and would continue to do it as often as I am even if I used auto-voting too. But I've only been here four weeks and the more people I discover the more time consuming it is and very difficult to keep up on everyone. I've missed the 24 hour pay period for great posts a number of times, and I guess that actually is the underlying problem--it would be so much better if you had at least a few days before the payout so people would actually vote on older posts. But that probably has to do with the finite amount of money that's available to spread around.
I do appreciate the thought process behind what you said though, and that you are here supporting @klye, it likely means you are my kind of people and I'm going to check out your page now :)

As you say, I am one of the ones that prefers a comment than an upBOTe.

Yet, seeing shitposts, revamps and dressed up copypasta gathering a couple bunch of bucks when original content is ignored, only shows that there's something wrong in steemit.

I'm not anti steemsports either but there is certain questionable tactics and intimidation that you might not be aware of going on in chat rooms and groups.. whether it be in public or behind closed doors.. but the way they are conducting their games or allowing their team to make some of this happen, is not reputable at all.

I promise you, not everything is really "as it seems"

Oh I know full well the asshattery coming from that group..

It will all come out in the end. You can't threaten people with flags for speaking out against you.
You just flag them if you don't agree, threats and fear are tools used by crooks.
It goes against freedom of speech on which STEEM was founded.

Let them bully their way into oblivion.

The actions and words from them will be the nails in that seal their coffin if they don't rethink the strategy.

agreed but I don't think anyone at the top realizes the tactics and intimidation, i'm talking about are going on.. because if they did, according to @berniesanders and a few others comments.... "that's very bad for business and would not look good AT ALL for steemsports or even steemit itself" and if i'm not mistaken.. something that would never be tolerated

Probably not.. All we can do is hope they stop bullying and threatening folks and if they do not I'll simply put them in my crosshairs again and make it far more of a visible problem.

I'm not out to gun anyone down whom is being respectable here.. But when I catch wind of inexcusable things happening such as threats to users from businesses claiming to be for the community.. That pisses me off.

I'll keep my ears open for sure. Also inviting anyone who's got evidence of @steemsports threatening you to step forward with it. You've no need to fear these people if they are acting within the means of decent human beings.

I'm going to keep that in mind and forward this to some users dealing with such accusations

As it ... steems?

😂 Sorry couldn't help it 🤣

IDK if you saw it, but the whole thing between you and steem sports made me come out of a 4 month posting retirement to write about how the community deals (and can deal with) overvalued content.

I normally don't pimp my posts in other comments, but it seems relevant to the issue at hand
https://steemit.com/til/@sigmajin/til-the-best-strategy-for-reducing-rewards-disparity-in-defense-of-the-flag-part-i

Hell yeah. Glad to see I could get you out of the cave and into the writing again!

Post pimping granted. Will check it out here shortly!

Why I like you: You are completely genuine. It bothers me that you lost powerful votes because it makes me question the character of those who would do that. You got a few facts wrong and granted you're style is a bit "in your face", but anyone who doesn't appreciate "what you see is what you get" is a bit suspect. I'll take loud and even abrasive if it's real over phony with a pretty face on it any day. I've been talking up steemit for weeks since I joined because I felt it didn't have the petty, empty and mindless flavor that other social media platforms are saturated with. This place has attracted a lot of truly great people that I've been elated to meet and form bonds with, but I hate to think that those with the most influence here are not of the same caliber.

:D I appreciate you taking the time to explain to me why you're a friend of KLYE!

I'm kind of crude at times.. Lots of people don't like that! But I'm not here to impress everyone. It's impossible.
You certainly do get to see more of people and their personality here on STEEM. It cuts the crap and the memes out of social media and focuses on human interaction.. Which is something nearly all people enjoy in some form or another.

In time the powers will shift here. The "bad eggs" will end up selling their STEEM Power to appease their greedy nature and those who've put in honest dedicated effort will take their place. :)

Thanks Dreemit. :)

I hereby do not manual vote for the pantie?
(that better?)

lol. I was calling those who dropped their votes man-panties..

I'm not a man panty damnit!

Just finished once again calling out a higher rep account for actions I feel aren't good or are shady. :P

lol, keep up the good word :)

I laughed. Thank you.. That edit is hilarious.

I don't like sports, but I do love watching the all black rugby team from New Zealand ...haha!

I don't mind reading a good sports article but betting isn't in my opinion creative content and shouldn't be on the trending page. But it does generate activity and steem just like porn (which can be very creative but usually not, tits and dicks all look the same after awhile). Sports and porn = bread and circus, which keep the pleps happy but not well fed or well informed.

I followed you again just for your epic rant....it was awesome, did your glasses fog up whilst typing it?

"sports and porn = bread and circus, which keep the pleps happy but not well fed or well informed."

Wow, It's almost as if you've taken the words right out of my brain.. <3

I was actually pretty darn calm writing this one... Except for the end of course.. Have to give the people what they want!... What they want is filth seemingly. :D

I dig you speaking your mind, glad to have you on follow again.
Sounds stupid but I actually look forward to your replies on my rants and raves.

I really enjoy watching people grow and be happy, it makes my old age worthwhile....cause getting old kinda sucks....hahaha so thank you @klye

You're only as old as you think you are..!

That being said.. I'm about 90 it eels like today.. :D

Happy new years lovely.

Easy to say when you are just turning 30 :p

Eat well and get some sleep, you are still growing...haha!

Great post ! And all of what you said above is why I follow you , plus your a Canadian ! Lol! Strong and proud ! Hahaha ! 🇨🇦😂🇨🇦 Keep up the great work and I'm sure you gained more awesome followers then you lost ! Steem on !🇨🇦😂♨👍😉🇨🇦

I am actually up followers...! didn't notice that till you mentioned it.

Not a complete loss... In fact I consider it a victory.

You bet it's a victory ! Plus you picked up followers that are like minded and support your beliefs ! Bonus ! ♨👍😉♨🇨🇦

Almost to 700 followers..!

That's awesome ! I can't believe how slow the rep is going up ! I have well over 800.00 steem in 2 , 3 days I'm still at 64 rep ! In steem stats it's showing I have 65 rep! But really it should have at least gone up to 66 rep ! I think something's with it ! Lol ! 👍👌😂

Klye? mmmm. I thought you should get a job. and get real. was I wrong.?

What do you mean? Not sure if you're trying to be rude or what.

I'm a self employed web developer and coder working on over half a dozen projects at the moment.
Not sure why the hell I'd force myself to go work some mindless 9 to 5 job to make someone else rich.

I mean, if you choose to think you NEED to be employed by someone else that's cool.. But it's simply not true.
