Kung fu is known as a martial art, as a form of self-defense, but that's not all, as well as self-defense, helps to get a better and stronger mental health, to relax and learn to control and dominate every part of the body .

Kung fu is known in Asia as the Art of War, because they used this great art, to defend their empire from the invaders. Its origin is not yet completely certain, but people said that it was created in a Shaolin temple on the Lohan mountain by the Hindu monk known as Bodhidharma who combined animal movements, Taoist, Buddhist traditions and laws of the universe, in order to give place to what we know as "Shaolin Kung Fu".

For decades the Kung Fu was giving rise to new combat styles giving as a result, different fighting styles for each family, this means that each family developed its own style of combat under the essence of the same Kung Fu. Due to this they decided to give origin to only 3 styles of combats, which are: Boxing of the North (Chang Chuen), Palm of the 8 trigrams (Pa Kua Chan) and boxing of the south (Nan Quan).

Kung Fu Styles

Chang Chuen

It is the boxing style of North China, consisting mainly of very acrobatic movements, where the main characteristic that defines this style is the composition of strength moves with acrobatic jumps, linked to positions where the balance defines everything.

In this style we can see schemes (imaginary combats) with empty hand, saber, straight sword, spear, long stick, among others, where each of these weapons is learned according to the level of the student.

Pa Kua Chan

It is the boxing style of the central zone of China that cames from the wudang temple. This is one of the most complicated styles to learn, because it is done on an imaginary octogram, where each trigram means a different element. You can also make it without the octagram but your level of training has to be high. And plus it's prettier with the octagram.

In this style the circular walk is used to move around the opponent, using counter turns, keeping the weight most of the time in the back leg, while the hands move in specific patterns. In addition Pa Kua Chan uses weapons such as the straight sword, saber, long stick, half moons, among others more weapons.

In this video you will appreciate the amazingness of Pa Kua Chang and understand a little more about this great fighting style.

Nan Quan:

It's the style of boxing in the south of China, consisting mainly of high impact movements, that is, movements that the practitioner must perform quite strongly in low positions. It is the opposite of Chang chuen, it focuses purely on strength, although it has some acrobatics, its focus is to maximize the body with every punch, kick and movement.

It is worth noting that in this style we make as in the Chan chuen, schemes with empty hand, saber, long stick, spear, among others.
