The Salad TravestysteemCreated with Sketch.

Well this is a first, I thought to myself, I would be a very happy hamster right now...

Yesterday I decided to treat myself.

A bit of time in town taking photos, and a cheeky little lunch out would be lovely. My venue of choice for said lunch was the Millennium Galleries in the city centre.

The Millennium Galleries is a museum and art gallery, opened 16 years ago (how time flies) as part of a 'make Sheffield more cool and interesting' project.

The project was clearly called something else, but you get my drift.

I'll bet there's some nice food on offer here, I thought to myself.

After all, it's the infamous Millennium Galleries!

After a quick squiz around at some of the permanent installations like this moving 3 headed giraffe monster made of spoons.

(A must in any art gallery, I hear)...

...I nipped into the cafe to soothe my rumbling tummy.

What I wanted was something simple, yet delicious.

So I opted for a couple of hot vegetable samosas.

Would you like to add a side salad? It's £.250 extra

£2.50?!

Well hey, I thought, rubbing my hands in glee. It must be one of those, super delicious fancy side salads. You know the ones with toasted pine nuts, artichoke hearts, edamame beans, parmesan shavings and all that jazz.

Hell yeah! I said.

(Actually I said, yes please but in my mind I'm always a lot cooler than I actually am).

I went and chose my seat and waited.

10 minutes later I was presented with this:

Now to be clear, this is a small plate.

And I could pick up this undressed, wilting, completely unexciting salad that cost me two and a half of my finest pounds, in one (small) hand.

Hahahaha!!

A salad fit for a hamster!

I guess the waitress forgot to look me in the eye and say, this is not the salad you are looking for or something.

Anyway, considering I posted yesterday morning about my conviction that the day would be 100% full of successes and victories, I thought I'd better get this turned around right now by seeking out the success in an otherwise disappointingly defeated lunch time.

Here we go...

  1. I now know never to eat at the Millennium Galleries again! Phew, this has saved me many a disappointing lunch in the future.

  2. I have a new-found appreciation of the salads I make at home. Apparently I am the Salad Queen.

  3. I got some stuff to write about today.

  4. I was so hungry by the evening that the home made fish and chips we had for dinner was super delicioso.

  5. I had a good laugh.

  6. The waitresses probably had a good laugh.

  7. My £2.50 was clearly far better off hanging around the museum than sitting in the dark of my wallet.

Alrighty.

Huzzah!! Victory is mine again!!

Sarcastic positivity. Love it!

But that's why I never eat at popular "hip" places. You pay out the nose for, say, a salad with chickpeas, and you get a piece of lettuce with a single pea in the center, drizzled artistically with some brightly colored and inedible sauce.

I just don't understand fancy eating, I guess.

Hahaha!! Yes, I couldn't agree with you more! Although, unfortunately there wasn't even a pretence of making this meal all arty farty! It was just dumped on the plate pfffft. :)

Yea that's pretty lame.

A salad for £2.50, oh dear and you got that sh*t, I would have sent it back or at least asked for the rest of it. my oh my. I really wonder what goes through peoples heads when they send this to customers. After reading your post I won't be going there to eat.

So is the Sunday selfie challenge on this week? I have a right good idea if it is. looking forward to it. I might even make you laugh for a bit.

I know! I should have taken it back, but I was a bit lazy.... haha!

Yes!! I shall be doing the surreal selfie challenge on Sunday!! Looking forward to what you've come up with. :)

. .. and once again this is why people are turning their back on the high street, absolutely disgrace, i could bathe in £2.50 worth of salad around here compared to that 'grab bag' of salad on the side. i wonder if these people really understand that they are serving another human being. . . glad ya recovered the day!

Haha! Bathing in salad would be quite the experience!

I know, I couldn't help thinking that the waitress actually handed me the plate with a straight face. Not something I could have done!

Cheers. :)

people seem disconnected from each other more and more. it's like going to work with drones, i keep away from the town/city as much as possible just recently, i dislike greatly getting ripped off.

Yeah, I've been feeling that I want to get out of the city more recently. I really noticed this when we went and spent a week down in Devon over the summer. The atmosphere is different. (Cleaner for one, ha!) But yes, it's nice to connect with things that are a little more real outside of the cities.

yeah for sure. get exploring. it's always worth it.

WHAT! HAHAHAHA! With £2.50 you could already buy a decent meal here. Heck, you could buy two decent meals and dessert! Haha! They could've at least tried to make it looks artsy just to justify the price.

I'm liking how you're listing possible small wins, it's kind of similar to what I do with things I'm grateful for. Or at least it has the same effect of uplifting one's spirits. It's nice that you took away a lot of positives from that experience :D

Wonderful, wonderful retelling, my friend! Way to put a shine on an otherwise day dampener!

And yes, I have heard that a 3 headed giraffe monster made of spoons is a must for any art gallery, especially those that serve £2.50 salads ;)

Thank you... and, right?! They could have tried to make it look artsy to justify the price AND because it's a bloomin' art gallery haha!

awww you're tantalising me with that link that only leads back to my own post! (Is this another one of your zen lessons??) Ha!

Um... yes. Hahaha! Just kidding! I really wish I could've done that even accidentally, alas, I had sent that without including the link. Perhaps as a lesson that everything is... oh screw it, I just made a mistake hahhaha! >.<

If it looked like this at least

I wouldn't have had an issue with the price haha!

Haha! Yes exactly! That and a gherkin would have made my day. :)

A gherkin! Hahaha! My former roommate's sister has a funny way of saying that because she kind of bites down on her tongue when she speaks. That's why I always make it a point to say gherkins whenever I come across that in the grocery haha!

What?! Hahaha! That's so funny! We've got a bit of a thing for gherkins in our household...mmmmmmm...pickles..... :)

I've never been a fan of pickles when I was younger, but as I grew older, I found a renewed appreciation for the finer things in life. All hail that sweet, salty, sour, succulent goodness!

Haha yes! And let us not forget the crrrrrunch either!
