Middle Earth, in the Middle of Pennsylvania

Yesterday we got a huge snow! What else is new? Actually, we get a lot of snow in Pennsylvania in the winter but we don't get very many big snowstorms. Usually we just get a few inches here and there and then it rains, gets warmer, and the process repeats. Yesterday was different.

At the beginning of the week I was checking out the weather. I'm a little obsessive about it. I noticed that something big was coming. My first reaction is always to mistrust the weather forecasters because they are hardly ever right. That, or the big storm will just veer off to the east of us and miss us completely. As it was looking more and more likely, I made the necessary preparations, which include going to the store and buying toilet paper. Actually, I needed it anyway. I did go to the store and buy us enough sustenance to get us through the day. I also bought donuts, because I freaking love donuts.

On Tuesday night we got the call that every kid longs to hear: ALL AREA SCHOOLS WILL BE CLOSED ON WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 7, 2018. The celebrations begin!!!! The kids and I stay up late finishing the first and only season of Freaks and Geeks, knowing we can sleep in the next morning.

We wake up to the beautiful snow coming down. It snowed all day long. I had a leisurely two cups of coffee and made the kids a big breakfast. After breakfast we gathered our snow clothes, got dressed, and headed outside. One of my favorite things is when you first step outside, it is so quiet. You can actually hear the snow coming down. It is such a beautiful sound. The snow was not good for making a snow man, so we took a hike through the woods. My kids like to pretend that they are elves, and the dogs are hobbits, and dwarves. We set out into Middle Earth on a great quest.
