Orkney - TIDAL POWER - Fully Charged
This is so fantastic I just had to share it! For years alternative power has been said to be expensive and temperamental compared to fossil fuels for power production... but these tidal generators are clean quiet efficient and pose no intrusion like windmills or solar farms might. They offer immense amounts of power from any reasonable river or tidal source. Three-quarters of the world's mega-cities are by the sea, by 2010, 80 per cent of people will live within 60 miles of the coast. So tidal power really could give us cheap renewable energy with very little capital outlay compared to the massive benefits and speedy returns of investment! In the third episode from the amazing isles of Orkney in Scotland, Robert visits EMEC's test site in the Fall of Warness, to learn about the astounding tidal power generation systems in operation there. There's a lot going on underneath the surface!
