Simply fantastic - National Park Cientifica Isabel de Torres - Dominican Republic
Hola mis Steemians
After the big national parks in the west and southwest of the Dominican Republic, today we visit one of the smallest, which is located in the very north near Puerto Plata, the
Isabel de Torres National Park
The small Isabel de Torres Reserve is also known as the Scientific Reserve (Parque Cientifica) and has a beautiful botanical garden. In addition to its scientific importance, this area of only 22 km2 is also absolutely worth seeing for visitors and is located in the area of the summit of Pico Isabel de Torres at about 800 m.a.s.l. It is considered the local mountain of the coastal town of Puerto Plata.
If you visit Puerto Plata, then a trip to the Pico Isabel de Torres, the landmark of the city, is an absolute MUST SEE. Of course
- the cable car ride
- the unique and fantastic view of Puerto Plata
- the mountainous hinterland
- the impressive north coast
- or even the great statue of Christ
And on the summit there is an artistic and beautifully landscaped botanical garden. The Parque Cientifica Isabel de Torres was already established in 1950 and surrounds the whole summit area of the Pico Isabel de Torres. The whole area, that is crossed with many paths, invites to unforgettable hikes.
This place is an absolute highlight for nature lovers. Here in almost alpine altitude you will find a remarkable fauna:
- Mahogany trees
- orchids
- Bromeliads and Ferns
- endangered plants such as star apple or trumpet trees.
There are also about 30 bird species living here - many of them only found here on the island.
conclusion
Naur enthusiasts will get their money's worth here. The national park Isabel de Torres offers a welcome change to turn your back on the beach life for one day.
