Why It's Okay To Lose Your Temper Every Once In A While

Sometimes it becomes really difficult to hold your anger and it makes you just want to let it all out on someone. There can be numerous reasons for someone to get angry, from something as little as a spilled coffee or as big as being humiliated in the public.

We are often advised to contain our anger at all times and never let it be seen to anyone, and even if it sounds like a really positive and mature thing to do, it's really toxic and unhealthy in the long run to a person's mental health. If you don't find an outlet for your anger to come out, it's going to affect your daily behaviour and may even change aspects of your personality.

Now, I'm not saying that you should just spread around your anger all the time. In fact, I believe in the opposite. But that still doesn't change the fact that we all need to express ourselves in one way or the other. Sometimes being quiet just isn't enough.

Health Issues

Holding onto your anger can be really unhealthy for your mental health. It can cause increased blood pressure, tensed muscles, increased heart rate, and an uneasy feeling of restlessness. It can even lead to irregular sleeping patterns, anxiety, eating disorders, and an overall unhealthy lifestyle.

It is advised to ease your way into being calm again instead of straight up ignoring your frustration. I made a blog some time ago focused solely on how to control your anger in the best possible manner without being aggressive. If you'd like, you can check it out here.

Most relationships come to an end when either or both the partners start to hold grudges against each other and don't fully express what they're going through. People usually think that expressing your problems with your partner is going to ruin the relationship, when in reality, it does the exact opposite.

A study shows that couples who were honest about their feelings and expressed their problems more openly, were more likely to have a long lasting relationship instead of those who kept holding on to their anger without the other person knowing.

What You Should Do Instead

There are tons of ways to deal with anger without being aggressive or violent including the ones I mentioned in the post linked above. Expressing your disappointment honestly, writing what you feel, meditation, rational thinking, and fully understanding the situation before making a statement are some of the best ways to do the same. So the next time you feel like holding onto your anger, just remember to find an outlet.
