Field Trip, aka “Rice-Paddy Trip” … Northern Thailand – Landscape Photography

in #landscapephotography6 years ago (edited)

Just 20 minutes out of town, we had escaped the urban jungle and found ourselves in this bucolic rural landscape in northern Thailand.

Rise with the Sun

When our language school gave us the chance to go on a “field trip,” many of us students jumped at the chance to get out of the city. By 8:00 a.m. on the day of the trip, we were well out of the city and strolling through rice paddies. It was a fine and early start to what would turn out to be an interesting and pleasant morning.

Rustic al fresco dining

The farmers told us a bit about rice-growing, and then gave us the chance to practice some rice-planting. When we compared our sub-standard results with those of the experts, one can only say that we needed more practice.

But instead, they sent us off to lunch – most likely to get us out of the way of the real rice-planters.

So, we ended our excursion with some excellent cuisine at a rustic al fresco lakeside restaurant. The food was mostly local fare, all of which was fresh and tasty – definitely worthy of a starry restaurant.

A great place to relax and have a trip!

I love trips to rural areas, where you can learn about how people live there, you see authentic things, not just what's been created for tourists.
We've also been to the north of Thailand, some rural parts and I enjoyed it so much there :)
Thanks for reminding me of that time

This large farm was set aside by the late king for educational purposes. Apparently it attracts some tourists, and tourists are of course welcome there. But those tourists who go to the farm are not doing typical touristic things.

It was a wonderful, short retreat ... which ended with awesome food.

Been to a place just like this up towards Mae Hong Son, where is this? really nice

This is just 30 minutes outside of Chiang Mai. It's a large farm set aside by the late king for educational purposes. They might even do some research there.
