Landscape Photography: construction by the river, ก่อสร้างถนนริมแม่นํ้า

This is my entry for landscapephotography contest hosted by @juliank.

The new project has started by the Mae Khong River on the Thai side. I don’t know if there has been a study on the impact of construction project on the environment and lives of those people living along the river (IAEA report). But the construction will go ahead whether it is going to benefit local people living along the stretch of this project or whether the local politicians and companies would stand to benefit the most from taxpayers’ money.

They are piling earth up to seven meters high along the two kilometer length of the river so that a new road can be built. This is said to promote tourism and the project of opening up the border between Thailand and Laos. The poor farmers will lose their livelihood as they can no longer plant their tomatoes and vegetables. They cannot climb over a seven meters high road to pump the water from the river for watering their plants.

Land prices will become much higher which makes them beyond the reach of local villagers. With the prospect of a riverside road, more real estate brokers will come in to buy lands from those owners who could not service their debts. In the past, these land deeds would change hand among locals and relatives, but today most of the land deeds around the river are in the hands of rich people with many projects for making more money.

ตอนนี้โครงการสร้างถนนริมแม่นํ้าโขงกำลังดำเนินการอย่างเร่งรีบ เพื่อเป็นการส่งเสริมการท่องเที่ยว และสนับสนุนนโยบายการเปิดพรมแดนไทยลาว. เราไม่รู้ว่ามีการศึกษาผบกระทบทางสิ่งแวดล้อม และวิถีชีวิตของชุมชนในท้องถิ่นหรือไม่ ผลประโยชน์ส่วนใหญ่อาจจะไปตกกับนักการเมืองท้องถิ่น และบริษัทก่อสร้างมากกว่า สิ่งที่เกิดขึ้นแล้วคือ ชาวบ้านที่เคยปลูกมะเขือเทศและผักสวนครัวไม่สามารถทำอาชีพเดิมได้ต่อไป เพราะเขาไม่สามารถข้ามถนนสูงท่วมหัวและไปผันนํ้าจากแม่นํ้าเพื่อนำมารดต้นมะเขือเทศและสวนผักได้อีกแล้ว.

สิ่งที่ตามมาคือ ราคาที่ดินที่สูงเกินความสามารถของชาวบ้าน เมื่อมีถนนเลียบแม่น้ำ ทำให้นายทุนสนใจเข้ามากว้านซื้อที่ดินกันมากขึ้น สมัยก่อนที่ดินแถวนี้จะซื้อขาย แลกเปลี่ยนระหว่างคนในหมู่บ้าน แต่ตอนนี้มีนายหน้ามาซื้อที่ดินจากชาวบ้านที่มีหนี้สินมากจนจัดการไม่ได้ ก็ต้องขายที่ดินไปในราคาที่ย่อมเยาว์ ที่ดินสวยๆตกอยู่ในมือคนรวยที่มีโครงการหาเงินและความมั่งคั่งหลายโครงการ

อนาคตของชาติจะเป็นอย่างไร เป็นเรื่องที่เดายากมาก แต่ที่แน่ๆคนจนจะหมดไปเพราะอดตายนั่นเอง เวรกรรมกับนโยบายการพัฒนาประเทศเพื่อความยั่งยืน(ของนายทุนไทยและเทศ)
