KillerPix Photography Contest: Boats! (Photos from our Life on a Boat!)
I couldn't ignore the topic of BOATS. Of course, I also couldn't begin to decide which photos to use.
We lived on a sailboat for almost two years. Mainly in the Bahamas, but we started in Florida, through the Bahamas, to Turks & Caicos and through a storm that demasted our boat before it limped into the harbor in the Dominican Republic.
ANYWAY, the top two photos are from the Georgetown Regatta in 2016. Our boat-home was anchored close enough by that most of us watched from the deck. We did take the dinghy out to get some pre-race and close up photos of the event as well. I can't begin to tell you if these photos were taken from our Canon T3i or our iPhone, because we just took all of the photos we could and then I put them all in one folder. I didn't imagine a time when it would matter what I took them with (as you can tell, I'm not a photography pro or a snob about cameras... I don't know enough to do it properly!)
The Regatta was FASCINATING. The boats started arriving in the days before the races and you could almost feel the anticipation. The locals were preparing for the celebrations after the races and the other cruisers (people who lived and traveled on their boats) were excited to watch the races (and party afterwards, I'm sure!)
It was really cool to watch how these racers maneuvered their boats with just sails and their body weight. There were times when I was sure someone was going to fall off of one of the long boards that stuck out from the side. They would all pile on for leverage to help steer the boats as they went around the buoys and turns. They really got going on these little boats made for speed!
If you're interested, this is what our boat looks like (from the Sapona Shipwreck in Bimini. I believe my husband @serapium or one of my kids @loliboofae @abyni or @knightengale took this photo. It's one of the rare pictures of our boat from a distance. They spent most of the day climbing, exploring and jumping off of the shipwreck:
This is the bird's eye view. This photo was taken by @abyni after she went up the mast to fix our anchor light.
@abyni practicing music, which she did a LOT on the boat. She taught herself ukulele and guitar while we were living onboard.
Our son Jaedin (aka @knightengale) who was the fisherman of the family as well as the tech geek who fixed things for us all the time.
Annnnnd Paris @loliboofae and her boyfriend Jazz who lived and traveled with us for the first 6 months or so:
And of course, I post The Tempest Papers quite regularly, our 'letters from a boat cat' series, with a lot of boat life photos and pictures of our on board pets (two dogs, two cats):

@bryn lovely pictures. I live by the sea and often watch the regattas and racing. I'm not sure that my bay (lovely as it is) can compete!
Thank you! The Bahamas were like another world! My first words when I came out on deck as we approached Bimini was "Wow! I always thought photos of this were photoshopped!" because it was so very beautiful and just perfect looking!
You Have a nice day!
