10 Jobs That Won't Exist In 10 Years (Told In GIFs)

in #jobs7 years ago (edited)

Technology is moving so fast that most people don't realize these jobs won't be around in 10 years.  Some jobs are being taken over by robotics while some will just disappear like Blockbuster employees. If you have one of these jobs then you will really want to think about trying something new soon.

10 Jobs That Won't Exist In 10 Years

1. Taxi Drivers

Not only are taxi drivers under threat by companies like UBER and Lyft, but autonomous vehicles will eventually cast the final nail in the coffin.

2.  Mall Employees & Mall Santas

The retail space is getting hit hard by the increase in Internet sales through Amazon and others. There will come a time in the very near future that malls will start closing their doors. They might become mining facilities for Bitcoin or Ethereum. Who knows, but they won't find a 21 Forever in there ironically. And no more mall Santas.

3. GameStop Jobs

The days of trading a $50 game for $3 will soon be over. The video game store will be history as video game content goes 100% digital over the next 10 years.

4. Fast Food Employees

You favorite drive through pranks are going to come to an end soon. Fast food businesses will transition over to machines as soon as possible. Which is a shame if you're this guy and losing your job.

5. Toll Booth Collectors

Those lonely jobs in the middle of the highway are going to go away. The more autonomous cars and trucks become so will the payment to use the roads. Don't worry. Most of us will be able to figure it out. Except for this woman.

6. Newspaper Employees

Within 10 years, we are going to see newspapers completely disappear.  Their brands will last online, but the local paper boy will not have a job. The printing team won't have jobs and all the people that sold, designed and edited the paper will have to find new jobs doing something else.

7. Travel Agent

Very soon, travel agents won't be needed. With the savings and the popularity of travel sites, the need to see a local agent is already almost non-existent. In 10 years, it will be hard to find a local travel agent.

8. Assembly Line Workers

In a very short amount of time, the robot that you see below will morph into a fully autonomous assembly plant with the need of a few employees just to monitor everything. You might be able to still find assembly line jobs in other parts of the world, but not in the US.

9. Cashiers

Your local 7/11 most likely won't have grumpy cashiers to deal with. Instead you go in and get what you want and when you walk out it's paid for or replaced by large vending machine type buildings. Either way, find a new job.

10. Strippers

Just kidding, there will still be strippers, but they won't dance for cash. The term "make it rain" won't work anymore. There will be a screen behind the stripper that accumulates the bitcoin the audience transfers like a telethon donation counter. Oh, and telethon jobs will be gone too. So start saving that bitcoin. lol

Just remember, all of this is possible because of the Internet!

hahaha, you might be right too! I thought about adding Tellers, but it is an industry that is going to see rapid change in the future. That is for sure!!!
I appreciate you stopping by and replying.

np man, I enjoy your posts.

Thank you so much.

This is a pretty good list though it may be more like twenty or so years for some of these. It seems to take a long time for things to completely die out after they reach the dying stage.

I have to disagree about malls and mall Santas though. Malls are the one thing I frequently see having success in both small and large cities (even when businesses are closing in other parts of the city). For some reason, people are willing to pay for overpriced things, and I think the social aspect of walking around in a crowded place adds to that appeal, similar to how people will pay for overpriced beers at a bar when they have the option to drink at home. Teenagers go to malls with their friends to spend whatever cash they have and to have something to do, and families go for an excuse to get out of the house.

I stood in the dreaded Easter Bunny line this year for my infant daughter, and it took two hours because there were so many people. Add that amount of people times the amount of hours I wasn't there that day and multiply that amount by the other 20 days the Easter Bunny was at this specific mall this year (with photo packages that range from $30-$50), and you can see that malls make a pretty penny from the service. Not to mention, Santa is a little more popular than the Easter Bunny.

First of all thanks for giving awesome feedback. You picked up a new follower. I also agree that it might take 20 or so years for them to completely die out, but many could be gone as soon as 10 years.

When it comes to malls, I don't know. I think they are going quick right now. Look at this article by LA times
http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-malls-closing-20170531-story.html
The retail industry is in shambles and it will continue to get worse and worse. Malls will close because the small stores and the anchors are having a problem paying the bills. You are right, they are places to hang out, shop, but not buy. We will see a rise in community areas to fulfill our need to be around each other but the malls will be gone, and it will happen soon than 20 years I think. Some might exist in a few medium size towns, but most are going to close in my opinion, but you might be right. We'll see.

I've done the Easter Bunny line too. lol That is why I kinda hope the malls close. lol

Nice! I think the taxi one is going to be the hardest/biggest change. If you count Uber and Lyft drivers we are probably still increasing the number of taxi drivers and they will all have to find new jobs (and truck drivers!) in the next decade. I have seen crypto rain functions on some websites though...

There are over 1.8 million Americans who get paid to drive. Uber might have some tricks up their sleeves. They are going to be testing flying taxi's in Dubai this winter. So, they might just be a different kind of driver. Thanks for the reply!! It is an interesting time.

Resteemed, UpVoted and supportive 100%!!!

If i have the power, first thing to bring this world back to his original state would be CUTTING OFF INTERNET or HIS USE WITH LIMITED POWER!

Thank you so much. I really appreciate it. You're support means a lot.
You rock.

Can I add "politician" to the list? :D

PLEASE DO!!! LOL
I'd put up reading the newspaper if that was possible.

Very well done my man! Good post with all the funny gif! 🙌🏼

Thanks. bud. I appreciate the support. How are things going?

I haven't seen a toll booth collector in quite some time. ...they're virtually all electronic/manned by barricade of cameras

Clothing stores won't go away at least not in women's fashion seeing as how we gotta try it on first. :) i know you didn't say clothing store specifically but there are a lot of those in the mall

Chelsea thanks for you insight. My last trip to New York we had toll collectors, not many, but some. I was really just trying to find a reason to use that awesome GIF, lol.

Women's clothing is an interesting part to this puzzle. With the rise of things like Lularoe and the very simple sizing program they have, the need to try on clothes might drastically be reduced in the future. Also with Amazon's return service becoming quicker and easier, it may also cut down the need to try on clothes in a store. There will still be stores, but the department stores that malls depend on so much are going away. Macy's, Sears, and other large stores that really support the malls are having a hard time paying the bills right now. I bet we see a drastic downsizing in the retail and local places are for trying on things and you order and it is at your house in 24 hours. Something like. The retail industry, including the women's clothing stores will have to overcome some challenges to stay open, but I doubt it will be in malls.

Yea macys, jc penny, dillards all are in for some problems. I agree.
The smaller stores like francescas, chicos, white house black market, soma ...i think will continue to be valuable walk in places.
Sizing charts and what have you are nice but as a woman, i can tell you they aren't always accurate and its just harder to buy clothes online. But generally if its a brand i know and trust i will go online versus a store

I agree 100%. But the thing is, those anchor stores are the ones that pay the bills for the malls. The smaller stores will be able to find better stand alone stores as small mom and pop stores close. On a side note, I also see fashion becoming less and less important in the future in general. It will never go away, but the importance of fashion in our society will dramatically drop I think. Especially over 30 years.

Yea I have never been a crazy fashion obsessed female. Functionality and comfort > "fashion".
That's why it is easier for me to shop for clothes online since i sort of have pre-established brands i like and know fit. But so many women are so freaking obsessed with shopping. ...and the latest stupid fashion
All fashion trends usually loop back anyway....i find it incredibly annoying and tedious to even try to "keep up" ugh
And you raised a fair point returning things up amazon is easier than ever. 'Specially once those drones come pick up my return for me. :D

The drones are going to be interesting. Did you see a proposed "beehive" plan?
https://www.livescience.com/59617-amazon-patent-for-drone-beehive-airport.html

I think it has great potential but employees shouldn't have to attach the packages. .. just as i want the damn thing to pick up my package not sit there to wait on me. Lol. Am i lazy or what.
I bet there would be a lot of initial "goofs" and drone malfunctions but they would be smoothed out quickly.
They should do something or at the very least make the centers more easily accessible. ..this would do it

Suggest people what the alternative skills are there to develop like coding, digital marketing, graphic designing, cloud computing etc.
I love all these but can't learn all of them, already 29 and I guess 30 more years are left, so lets see how many I learn.
