The obligatory hello page
As a new user to Steemit, I decided to create that oh so important introduction post. Like most blogging sites a good introduction can make or break someone.
My name is Darryn, henceforth known as Wooden Wookie.
I live in New Zealand in a city called New Plymouth. It's a great city that is perfect for outdoors people with a tonne of stuff to do for free. It's won best small city in the world a few times on TripAdvisor so make of that what you will.
I am what I would call an advanced beginner woodworker. This is what most of my posts will be about as I progress in this hobby. The reason for choosing woodworking stems from when I was working in IT. I had worked in IT for 18 years and it has left me quite jaded. On one occasion my wife suggested I take up a hobby. I thought about it and decided that woodworking would be something I'd like to give a go. I had travelled to Hawera - an hour south of where I live - and noticed some wooden trucks on the side of the road at Inglewood. I love wooden toys and I thought it would be cool to make my own.
A couple of years later we had Little Wookie. Now that he's coming up three there is more desire to move this way with my hobby. I've made a helicopter that he loves, despite the obvious lack of quality. I'm currently designing a rubbish truck that I will build for him. He's excited about that as am I.
My posts will be of two types. Some will be tutorial in nature where I will explain how to do things I've learned. Others will be a progress report where I explain what I'm up to.
