Hello Steemit! I'm Pinguino - artist, photographer, adventurer

It was summer school, and I was in a pottery class when a group of ten year old boys were writing their first comic book. I'd recently started picking up X-men; the grocery store magazine rack was my local comic book store. If they could make a comic, so could I! By the end of summer, I'd written and drawn my first comic, The Peacekeepers. I found myself at San Diego ComiCon, where Barry Blair of Everquest convinced me that I should self-publish my comics about penguins, and I built up Penguin Palace as an indy publisher.

I ended up doing more zines than comics, publishing pop culture articles for Flippersmack. I wrote for Iron Feather Journal, System Failure, and Go Go Magazine. A car accident made life a little complicated, and I jumped over to Comic Book Resources to focus on pop culture photography, shooting conventions and creators for the next decade.

Not a whole lot has changed between 13 year old me and me today. I do a lot of illustration for The Parallax, a computer security magazine. I still shoot comic book conventions and pop culture, usually for OC Weekly or Bleeding Cool. I'm getting back into making comics. I started a crypto zine with my friends called Spelunk.in, and we're getting that back online soon. And I go on photo adventures around the world - Antarctica, Africa, and Japan being my favorites. I'm a huge fan of cryptocurrency and microtransactions, and love the idea of tipping content creators instead of publications relying on ad revenue. I'm hoping that Steemit will be a good home for some of my work, and look forward to meeting you!
