WHY THIS POST

This post is just an introduction since I am seriously thinking to start posting here on Steemit. I think it is better to write it as a first post than to write it later when I already will have published some other material on the platform.

WHY NOW

I registered with Steemit.com more than a year ago but never posted anything. I think this happened because I often get interested in too many things, and then I forget about some, to rediscover them after weeks or months. Now I feel it is the right moment for me to approach the Steemit Universe.
By chance, a few days ago HF20 storm happened, with various changes that needed time to start working as they were intended (with a little help from patches). Luckily enough, now operations are stable.

ORIGINS

My name is Fabrizio, and I recently turned 49. I was born in Lucera (near Foggia, Apulia) in the Southern part of Italy, in July '69. Together with my family, I toured Italy cause my father often got promoted in his work and changed city where he worked. That's why, between '69 and '86 we lived in Foggia, Torre Del Greco (near Naples) and Turin.

I always had a hard time building lasting friendships because, sooner or later, we would have to move to a different city and also thanks to my shyness.

Do you remember the song "Ask" from "The Smiths"?

"Shyness is nice, and
Shyness can stop you

And I think this is a good take about shyness :)

EDUCATION

I attended Scientific High School in Torre Del Greco and then in Turin. In 1988 I went to Polytechnic Turin. Chemical Engineering faculty. A choice that was driven by other friends going there, by my parents who were pushing me towards this faculty and by the hope of finding a good job soon. Everything but a real passion for subjects I would have studied there.

To cut a long story short, I excellently started my first year but later lost interest and never completed the exams (only three remained, in the end).

WORK

I realize now that every work I did, was somehow connected with computers and the internet. I started approaching computers in the 80s when my father, Mario, started buying Sinclair ZX81, Commodore, Amiga, and the likes. I remember we bought monthly magazines in English to copy programs line by line and play games or use other kinds of software.

In the 90s it was the time of real PCs and the beginning of a revolution: in December '94 I started connecting to the internet through a Trust 14.4 kbps modem. The names of the first providers in Turin were Inrete, Venturanet and FileItalia.
I suddenly fell in love with surfing as much as I could and soon started to work as a webmaster for an Italian watchmaker and later for different companies producing online and paper catalogs. Those were the times when that kind of know-how was not so common to find, at least in Italy.

In 2007, together with my closest friend, we opened a start-up in Turin. We began to be interested in e-commerce and wanted to verify if it was possible to sell various things on the eBay marketplace (with a profit, preferably). Our company grew a little bit and, in 2011, it was absorbed by a bigger one, and a new adventure started and still goes on. Now we sell on Amazon, eBay, and other non-marketplace shops.

INTERESTS

Being almost 50 years old, I can say there are for me two or three strong interests. First of all: music. To better understand what I mean: between 2011 and 2013 I attended the Primavera Sound Festival in Barcelona. Live concerts from 6 pm to 5 am on various stages and for many musical tastes. An incredible full immersion with thousands and thousands of fellow music enthusiasts from all over the world. Some of my preferred artist are: Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, The Flaming Lips, Fuzz, Dinosaur Jr., R.E.M., The Cure, The Stooges, Grinderman, Chemical Brothers, King Crimson, The Smiths and many many others.

Cinema is another passion of mine. Classical directors like Truffaut, Hitchcock, and Kubrick. Modern ones like Tim Burton, Wes Anderson and Guillermo Del Toro.

The last passion I want to include at the top of the ranking is Model Railroads. This is something that went on sleep a few years ago, probably because I thought I didn't have enough space. Since 2016 it emerged again as one of the strongest interests of mine.

SUBJECTS OF MY FUTURE POSTS ON STEEMIT

I would like to run a photography blog and, from time to time, write posts on different subjects like crypto but who knows which direction I will take :)

I hope to find many many readers (with more interesting posts than the one you are kindly reading, I promise!) and to exchange opinions and ideas with everyone here.

A new adventure begins...

PERCHE’ QUESTO POST

Scrivo questo post per presentarmi, dato che sto pensando seriamente di iniziare a scrivere su questa piattaforma. Mi è sembrato più giusto presentarmi nel primo post assoluto piuttosto che farlo dopo aver pubblicato altro materiale.

PERCHE’ ORA

Sono iscritto a Steemit.com da più di un anno, ormai, ma non ho ancora pubblicato nulla fino a questo momento. Credo che l'iscrizione sia arrivata in conseguenza del mio crescente interesse per il mondo delle crypto ma poi devo essere stato distratto da qualche altro progetto. Mi capita spesso di interessarmi di troppe cose, per poi archiviarne temporaneamente qualcuna da riscoprire in seguito. Ora sembra proprio il momento di approfondire l’universo Steemit. Il caso ha voluto che decidessi di iniziare a postare proprio nei giorni successivi all’HF20, con tutto il subbuglio che ne è derivato!

LE MIE ORIGINI

Mi chiamo Fabrizio e ho compiuto 49 anni recentemente.
Sono nato a Lucera, in provincia di Foggia, nel Luglio 1969. Insieme alla mia famiglia, ho compiuto un piccolo Giro d'Italia perche’ mio padre, che era impiegato in banca, spesso veniva trasferito di città in città, specialmente in occasione di qualche avanzamento di grado. Così tra il ’69 e l’86 ho vissuto a Lucera (FG), Foggia, Torre del Greco (NA) e Torino, dove risiedo dall’86. Per via dei frequenti spostamenti, ho sempre avuto difficoltà a mantenere rapporti di amicizia duraturi. Una delle cose più difficili, è stata cambiare scuole e relazioni con compagni e insegnanti. Il tutto aggravato da una certa timidezza del mio carattere.

Ricordate la canzone "Ask" degli Smiths?

Penso che sia un punto di vista molto veritiero sulla timidezza.

GLI STUDI

Ho frequentato il Liceo Scientifico, fino al terzo anno a Torre Del Greco, poi a Torino.
Nel 1988 mi sono iscritto al Politecnico, sempre a Torino. Facoltà di Ingegneria Chimica.
Una scelta dettata da varie ragioni: compagni di Liceo che andavano in quella direzione,
una certa preferenza per quella facoltà da parte dei miei genitori e anche la volontà di trovare un buon lavoro ancora prima di laurearmi (a quei tempi poteva succedere anche questo). Tutto tranne che una passione particolare per quelle discipline che avrei dovuto studiare. Per farla breve, cominciai a buon ritmo con gli esami ma presto rallentai, con il risultato finale di essere arrivato a 3 esami dalla fine. Esami mai affrontati un po’ per disinteresse e un po’ perché avevo ormai iniziato a lavorare per conto mio. E’ una scelta che, almeno per il momento, non rimpiango.

IL LAVORO

Mi accorgo adesso che tutti i lavori che ho svolto, hanno una stretta, se non strettissima correlazione con internet e i computer. La dimestichezza e la passione per i computer sono merito di mio papà Mario, il quale fin dalla metà degli anni ’80 aveva introdotto a casa i primi computer che all’epoca si chiamavano Sinclair ZX81, Commodore e Amiga (tra gli altri). Ricordo ancora che acquistavamo delle riviste mensili in inglese dalle quali copiavamo i listati che poi davano la possibilità di far “girare” dei semplici giochi o altri tipi di programmi meno ludici

Passato all’inizio degli anni ’90 ai pc veri e propri, verso dicembre ’94 iniziò la grande RIVOLUZIONE con il primo accesso a internet da casa, tramite doppino telefonico e modem 14.4 kbps, marca Trust. Non ricordo esattamente quale fosse il primo provider di allora a Torino…probabilmente uno tra Inrete, FileItalia e Venturanet.
Diventando subito malato di navigazione, il passo fu breve, intorno al ’97, per arrivare al primo vero lavoro come responsabile del sito internet di un brand italiano di orologi. Anni pionieristici nei quali eravamo in pochi a saper fare certe cose e dove si guadagnavano cifre molto interessanti anche con un impegno orario limitato.

Seguirono collaborazioni con agenzie per la realizzazione di cataloghi online e cartacei di varie aziende e poi un periodo in cui pensai meno al lavoro e più allo studio.

Arrivando ai giorni (più o meno) nostri, con un carissimo amico e compagno di molte avventure, creiamo una start up a Torino che si occupa di commercio elettronico. Era il 2007 e provammo a vedere se fosse possibile mettere in piedi un’attività redditizia sul marketplace ebay. Per farla breve, questa attività si è sviluppata bene ed è stata assorbita, nel 2011, da una realtà più grande e la nostra avventura, pur tra le quotidiane difficoltà di ogni giorno, continua ancora adesso. Ci occupiamo sempre di e-commerce su ebay ma siamo presenti anche su amazon oltre che su due altre piattaforme di nostra proprietà.

PASSIONI

Avviandomi verso la cinquantina, posso ormai dire di avere due o tre passioni di base che sono molto radicate e forti. Prima di tutto la musica, prevalentemente rock (certo è una definizione che non dice quasi nulla). Per farvi capire cosa intenda per passione: dal 2011 al 2013 ho frequentato molto intensamente il Primavera Sound Festival di Barcellona. E’ una tre giorni di concerti che iniziano verso le 18 e vanno avanti fino alle 5 del mattino. Ci sono molti palchi (si svolge nella zona olimpica di Barcellona) dove si suona contemporaneamente e si trovano ottimi artisti, tra noti e meno noti. E’ una full immersion con decine di migliaia di altri appassionati provenienti da tutto il mondo. Ve la consiglio ardentemente!
Alcuni degli artisti che preferisco sono: Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, The Flaming Lips, Fuzz, Dinosaur Jr., R.E.M., The Cure, The Stooges, Grinderman, Chemical Brothers, King Crimson, The Smiths e molti molti altri.

Altre passioni che mi contraddistinguono da anni sono il cinema e il modellismo ferroviario.
Tra i miei registi preferiti: Truffaut, Hitchcock, Kubrick, Tim Burton, Wes Anderson, Guillermo Del Toro e Woody Allen.

Parlando di modellismo ferroviario, invece, l'ho praticato un po’ a singhiozzo tra il ’93 e oggi ma da un paio di anni è tornato alla ribalta in maniera feroce.

ARGOMENTI CHE VORREI TRATTARE SU STEEMIT

Fermo restando che non ho ancora le idee del tutto chiare, vorrei soprattutto avviare un blog prettamente fotografico, per poi postare, di tanto in tanto, anche qualcosa di diverso. Ad esempio qualche considerazione sul mondo delle crypto. Chissà cosa ne verrà fuori!

Sono arrivato al termine di questa mia lunga presentazione, spero di non essere risultato troppo noioso e prometto di esserlo il meno possibile con i miei post. Mi auguro di ritrovarvi numerosi a leggerli e a esprimere delle opinioni e non vedo l’ora di conoscere altri utenti di Steemit per fare un pezzo di strada e crescere insieme!
