Robotic AI: "exoskeleton a modern miracle".steemCreated with Sketch.

in #ia5 years ago (edited)

A couple of months ago I met a young man, Brayan is a sixteen year old boy with a special condition that prevents him from walking. For more than fourteen years Brayan crawled literally, his family blamed him for not trying hard enough to change his situation, for this reason Brayan tried to commit suicide twice, when I talked to him and he told me his case I saw him cry inconsolably.

What impressed me most about this young man was his ability to keep his dreams alive, despite not being able to walk brayan dreams of being a policeman, he dreams of belonging to a group of special police forces, even living this sad reality, because he hardly ever A few months began to mobilize with a walker.

While I was researching to make this publication, I remembered Brayan and I thought about the number of people around the world with similar conditions to my little friend and the wonderful miracle that it would be to have an exoskeleton that allows them to walk upright, which led me to the title of this article "exoskeleton a modern miracle".

About nine years ago, the two founders of Rex Bionics, Richard Little and Robert Irving, had the idea of developing this type of robotic legs. The reasons for this were obvious: Robert Irving had already been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and it is clear to him that sooner or later he will end up in a wheelchair. In addition, the fact that the mothers of both are in wheelchairs allows them to put themselves in the place of people who live in a world full of barriers. Consequently, the two friends decided to apply their knowledge and experience as engineers to the development of a machine for those people who normally need a wheelchair to get around.

Initiatives such as this one with different motivations are becoming increasingly common in the world, projects that seek to improve the quality of life of people with disabilities or simply facilitate tasks in factories, avoid injuries, provide assistance in hospital operating rooms etc.

Artificial intelligence is revolutionizing the world and there are many advances and innovations that we see frequently, there are many applications that are used today from facial or voice recognition through text predictions among other more complex, developed to make life more practical to the people, until arriving at the robotics that is the branch that more catches my attention.

In the world have developed so far a variety of exoskeletons that allows people who have never had the joy of walking upright or lost their mobility by accident, to get up off the floor or a wheelchair to take their first steps with freedom helped by this "Miracle of Modern Science" and today I want to share with you some of these modern wonders:

Developed for paraplegicsTo help the elderlyFirst of its kind for childrenFor military use

The exoskeletons also known as servoarmor, exomarco or exotraje, is a mobile machine consisting primarily of an external frame that can fulfill different functions depending on its purpose.

It is said that there are more than 2.6 million units in the market, made for many purposes, there are some simple ones developed to avoid injuries at work, those for surgical medical use, those that are developed for people with motor disabilities, of military use and those that increase the carrying capacity of a human being.

These have become a real miracle for people who have lost the ability to walk or those who for some reason were born without being able to walk, today they have the opportunity to do so thanks to the robotics. The problem we find in these units lies in the sale price, to be a new technology prices range between $ 100,000 to $ 125,000, something that is not easy to pay for an ordinary person which makes it very difficult to achieve the dream of walking.

Fortunately, technology is advancing very fast and units are being created at a lower cost such as the one developed in Mexico It was created to help the elderly in their mobility and that can be achieved with a price of $ 6,000, however those that help walk people who have totally lost mobility remain inaccessible to the ordinary citizen.

Source

In the world there are many "Brayan" suffering to see how their dream moves away more and more from them, dream of footballer, teacher, doctor, fireman, policeman, farmer among others. Unfortunately some do not have what it takes to buy a unit like this.

I think you need inventors and investors who can develop a project where expenses are reduced to their minimum expression and there may be more people in the world with access to this type of technology.

Conclusion

It would be nice to see Brayan walk, see him fulfill his dream some day, but the reality of this young dreamer is that he does not have the resources to access a unit like this that allows him to have some autonomy, nor is it available in Latin America or Venezuela. What I know is that brayan may be Andres, Julian, Ramón, Pedro or Juan who like them there are thousands of people in the millions of people in the world to whom this technology could change their lives forever.

We celebrate the existence of a technology like this and the growth it is having, but I think that the greatest impact will be achieved when a greater number of people know about it and use the devices created to improve their quality of life.

Share your opinion with me

What do you think of the exoskeletons? Do you know anyone who has been benefited with one of this? What could we do to make them reach more people?

Hello friend @fucho80.
You have really create a good post and awareness to this technology.
But i must say this is my first time of hearing this. Thanks for the great information.
Though in my country Nigeria, we have many people who tend to live up to their dream but they are been let down due to inability to use the body to achieve their goals. Due to what i read in the post the use of exoskeleton will be really benefiting but unfortunately it will really be very impossible to get in my country because of the:

  • cost
  • inability to travel down to get it where it is available
  • Inexperience usage of thee technology
    and so many more...
It will be a great technology but all what i pray for now is for my country to be more advance, technological and try to use its financial ability to get something like this to make people dream come true.

Regards!
@adewararilwan

Hello my dear @adewararilwan, I am very happy to read your comment and know that the publication served you.

cost
inability to travel down to get it where it is available
Inexperience usage of the technology
and so many more ...

Unfortunately that is the sad reality that our countries live, it is also true that for many people who suffer from not being able to move and walk as they would like it is very difficult to access this technology, I think the most important thing is that we multiply this information so that You can invest and help those who need it.

Thanks friend, take care.
@fucho80

Hello @marvyinnovation, thank you for receiving my note so lovingly and leave this comment with this in formation so valuable.

Let me share you some links and I hope you would have heard about 3d printing technology and this technology is very cheap and hence affordable to all.

Wooo, to be honest I had read and heard of 3D printing, but I did not know that they applied it to exoskeletons, if it really reduces costs it is a wonder and will contribute to the happiness of many orthopedic patients.

Thanks for the valuable information.

As much as I share the pain of those who can't walk by themselves, I also see the need to have a governing body to this thing, I've watched with man AI inspired movie and robotics to know that problems calls for solutions and solutions can sometimes grow messy.

But truth be told, AI is the future. And robotics is a sure thing. With time, I believe government and some NGO with a little bit of SDG will look into this by making the walking wheelchair more accessible to those having issues.

Hello @botefarm, Thanks for reading and commenting on my publication.

I pray that world governments understand this reality that is lived, invest resources in this and many people can improve their quality of life.

Thanks for your comment, I'm glad to read it.

Possibly these technologies have been developed more for military and defence reasons. However, I am glad that they are using the advances to help disabled people. Necessity is the mother of inventiveness.

It's a shame that person's trying to commit suicide. But it is not for less and more with this situation that we live here. It must be hopeless. It's a hard test that he's going through. But I guess God doesn't put burdens you can't bear.

May God help him to bear it and give him strength to move forward.

Thanks for sharing

It is very sad to see people suffering from any difficult situation, people who sometimes see smiling but who are carrying a very heavy burden. We pray that this boy can lift his spirits and despair disappears.

Blessings!

I hope Brayan and others find relief for their pain. This technology would give them a new opportunity to improve their lifes.

This remind us that drug wars is not game, is a sad reality that cause a lot of damage:

Hi @danielfs,

It is really very much paining to read the data of landmine victims in Colombia.

Hope this technology will help them so soon.

Yeah, this will be very helfpul, not only in Colombia but in other countries

This is the future! The blend of human and robotics. It will help flue the next major bloom in human growth and evolution. I am a futurist and am excited about off world colonization and exploration. While this robotic tech is still in its infancy, what it can grow into is extraordinary.

I am further excited about its ability to help others and give more freedom to people who had this freedom taken from them.

All this being said, I would 100% put on a pair of robotic legs and become super human in a heart beat!

:D
Thank you!

Brother @jacuzzi, I am very happy to read this great commentary. Thank you!

While this robotic tech is still in its infancy, what it can grow into is extraordinary.

You are right, it is a very incipient technology but I think it develops and grows quickly, I know that in the next few years I will help many people in need of freedom.

Blessings and thanks for sharing your opinion.

I know many peoples had benefited that exoskeletons.
I see too much.
But its price is not my life, especially they are use US dollars,
In the United States, many people are unable to pay that price, let alone us, so his next step should be to lower his price, lte its price no more than a motorcycle.

Hello dear @cloudblade, Thanks for sharing your opinion.

But its price is not my life, especially they are used US dollars,

Correct brother, they are very high prices for a common person. I believe that it is necessary the intervention of the governments that invest in this technology so that they benefit the people who suffer from some motor disability.

Thanks for reading, take care.

@fucho80, It's really unfortunate to hear about that young boy. Hope that these kind of Technological Advancements and Tools will become blessings for them. Stay blessed.

Friend @chireerocks, thanks for participating, welcome.

Hope that these kind of Technological Advancements and Tools will become blessings for them.

Woo brother is what we like to see happen, that people like this find a solution to their problem. This technology is miagrosa for them although it is still unattainable for many, I think they are looking for ways to make it more accessible.

Take care.
Pr EV

Let's hope that these tools will become inexpensive and affordable for whoever in need. Have a great time ahead and stay blessed.

Dear @fucho80

Thank you for sharing that story with us. I'm sure that Brayan had a difficult life but I found it quite surprissing that he tried to kill himself twice and failed both times. Somehow I always had trouble understanding ... how difficult it is to kill yourself if you really want it?

Perhaps both incidents were only aiming one purpose and were nothing but crying for help and compasion. Hardo to tell.

Back to main topic: those exoskeletons are one of many great examples that technology is not only serving evil purposes. Thx for sharing.

Yours, Piotr

Dear friend @crypto.piotr, thanks for reading this publication.

Perhaps both incidents were only aiming one purpose and were nothing but crying for help and compassion. Hardo to tell.

It is possible that he sought the attention of his people to somehow get help. The truth is that he tells me that his family blamed him for not trying hard enough to walk.

Back to main topic: those exoskeletons are one of many great examples that technology is not only serving evil purposes.

I totally agree with you and I think that there should be many more projects like these that bring a significant benefit to people.

Thank you for your contribution to this publication.

Take care.
