Survival Food Series #10 : Eat the Weed(s), Flowers and Roots! What You Can Eat From Your Own Backyard!
# 10 Pigweed/Amaranth is edible from flower to root, no processing needed. This wonderful wild grain is edible in many ways and can provide something delicious for the table from seedling to maturity. The plants and stems are edible even when mature. Once seeds are dry and mature just rub or bounce them into a container to make porridge, bread or crackers.

Very easy to grow and once establish will repopulate themselves with volunteers all across your yard or pasture. One year we decided to let all of our vegetation grow up to see what various edibles we might have...we found so many we never dreamed where available right here under our noses. We worry much less now about keeping things tidy and many times just let the weeds grow...
Our little fenced area away from small livestock in our backyard below. As you can see we kind of let it go and see, what God provides!

Great post, thank you. I love to forage for wild mushrooms. Now I will just go out my back door and look for these healthful wild edibles.
