So, I had to prepare an exhibition in Vienna for the 29th of September. So I worked out a way to go and spend two months there before having the exhibition. I decided to drive up with my car filled with paintings. One of my best friends Maribel decided to come with me and share the driving and take a holiday. She would return to Ibiza by Plane after two weeks.
The local news paper made a little mention of this trip.
My Car and the Sea Urchin visiting Europe.
My car had been previously owned by an artist friend of mine called Lourdes Crespi (https://www.lourdescrespi.com/obras/2013-2018) She would have loved to come on this trip but at that time she had fear of going abroad, as a result of some other issues. She was trying to work out this problem with therapy and also in the process made an exhibition of her sea views and made sea urchins. She had given me one of those sculptures and I decided to take it on our road trip and have her see the world though her "avatar" . This little Sea Urchin travelled with us in the front window. We sent her many pictures of it in many places.
Maribel joined me on the trip...
A car packed with paintings and her violin.
The little Sea Urchin avatar travelled...
Into Austria via Salzburg...
Driving further into Austria to stop off on the way for a few days at our friend Peter´s.
He took some lovely pics of us theatrically acting our artist roles! :-)
We met up with a group of artist friends there at Peter´s.
Then finally in Vienna... after unloading the car we took a few relaxing days to be tourists there.
Visiting the Palais Palffy where I was going to exhibit in a month and a half I discovered this wonderful Polish artist. Leszek Wisniewski
I hope you enjoyed the Sea Urchin road trip from Ibiza to Vienna.
I loved remembering such a great time.
Next episode will be the Exhibition on the 29th of September that year.
Best Wishes!

looks like you had some really nice times on this trip,

“On the Road”! The first book I ever read on purpose:)
Wonderful trip. Dreamy.
yes, it got me dreaming to work on another road trip! :-)
Know any great spots—restaurants, pubs, art—in Barcelona? My wife and I will be there in May:) In late April my daughter plans to visit Ibiza for a long weekend. If you’re showing work, please let me know:)
well...... let me think about this one and I answer via email. I haven´t been to Barcelona for the past couple of years! Tell your daughter to get in touch with us when she is in Ibiza if she wishes, I won´t have an exhibition up just then but she is welcome to come over to my studio.
Please don’t go to any trouble. I just thought if you had a favorite place...
Thank you you Romanie:)
there are lots of favourites... it´s great to eat at the food markets in the stands that make tapas you can eat right there, like the Mercat Sata Caterina, just near the cathedral... then, near there you MUST visit the Palau de la Música (if you find a good concert while you are there, its even better to get the acoustics. I go to places I don´t remember the names, I know where they are and have been there forever but I never look for the names, I think that if I can find the time, it might be fun to do a post with what I recommend in Barcelona. El Born area is wonderful area, then the Barceloneta is just near the beach and there are some great streets there also, I also always eat in a place there I don´t remember the name, I need to ask my friends . In what area will you be staying?
We’re staying near Espanya—the hotel price was too good to be true. Very close to the metro. So there is a day exploring Montjuïc and El Poble-sec. We’ll do a district-a-day. El Born is definitely on the itinerary. Lots and lots of walking. It’s my specialty after the snow melts. And I hear there is no snow in Barcelona:)
I wonder about outdoor festivals in May.
A good day for me is good food, enough drink, and people watching til my eyes shut down.
I just wrote down the Mercat Sata Caterina and the Palau de Música.
We hope to take a day trip out of Barcelona. I dream of affordable winters in Spain:)
Thank you very much for the tips!
if you drive out of Barcelona you should go to Figueras to the Dali museum or Cadaqués to his house museum, beautiful coastal village.
Great traveling im your car
