PAINTING SEMINAR IN AUSTRIA. 2014. Old masters techniques.

as I promised in my previous post (https://steemit.com/hive-185836/@romanie/group-exhibition-in-austria-july-2014-hirschwanghof-niederoesterreich) I´m going to follow up with a bit more about this first trip to Austria I did back in 2014 to do an Art retreat learning the Old Masters Techniques by Professor Philip Rubinov https://www.vagallery.com/philip-rubinov-jacobson.html.

I learned about this technique while I was in India and found out that the austrian artist Ernst Fuchs https://www.ernstfuchs-zentrum.com/ had a large number of artists who had studied with him over the years and that also taught them.
I was never one to look for an art teacher as I was more interested in the experience and expression of art than the technique, but for some reason, I felt I wanted to take part and see if I could learn anything new.
I think I was drawn to the community of artist who painted their dreams and were in someway surreal. I was drawn to this "anything is possible"
So, after I raised the money to go and spend one month in the austrian mountains living and painting all day with other artists, I was in a very open mindset.
During the week we would be painting in the old barn turned into a studio, just across the street from the family owned hotel that hosted us with a room, breakfast and lunch. The PayerbacherHof Hotel, set in idilic setting.https://www.payerbacherhof.at/

The barn where we were painting was an old brewery.
Inside...
We would paint from 9am till 18h, just stopping for an hour to eat.
Most evenings were social gatherings in the gardens of the hotel where we would talk for hours and get to know each other better.
Other evenings were to walk, cycle or explore the surroundings.
During the weekdays in painting hours we learnt a lot about making our own pigments and layering different components.
I found this very useful and the four weeks was very productive.
Here are some of the works in process and when finished...
On the weekends we went to see the museums and some artists studios in Vienna.
We were only one hour away from the city on the train, so it was easy to get there and back in a day.
I will share with you in my next posts one of those artist visits that impressed me so much that I wanted to return to Vienna and study with him, the only thing is that he didn´t accept students, although I got around that one in a way and learnt from him, That is De Es Schwertberger (https://dees.at/)

It is a wonderful environment to paint and learn new techniques with the master. Great trip to Vienna, and now I understand that you exploit much better your great talent, these experiences help a lot and we learn to express our ideas in other perspectives that make you artistically enriched.

I´m happy you enjoyed these! I really recommend the experience. Its a very loose guidance, quite unstructured. I enjoyed that part of it because the content was very useful. Some people prefer a more rigid program. I find Professor Phil is very intuitive and can adapt the techniques to enhance peoples own painting language. This course won´t teach you to paint. It will teach you to use the tools to do the paintings you already do and he teaches one to see and observe. It´s that kind of guidance. I´m sure the Greece one will be wonderful but I think Austrias one was very good because it also has an artist community that grew in similar ways. I don´t think it´s happening in Austria for the moment, I think the pandemic restrictions are too tough still.
yes I did a couple of classes in Glastonbury but would love love love to do something for a bit longer and do a good chunk of painting :)

I am quite tempted to go on the greek one! Don;ty have a vaccine though so will be somewhat dependent I guess
I´m not sure what the vaccine policy is in Greece. If its anything like Spain, as soon as we are close to summer they bring down all the restrictions so that the tourism business can thrive. Maybe your country is more strict, I don´t know.
no the uk is fine we have no restrictions at all now and no passes but some countries in Europe I know are real bad.
@fashionphotos @romanie until now everyone had to have a pcr or rapid test vaccinated or unvaccinated this was a policy for the Christmas holidays but now this has changed...vaccinated people don't have to have a test but unvaccinated people have to have a pcr or rapid
Thank you for letting us know!... you are right, it´s difficult to know but in these tourist based economies like Spain and Greece they relax the measures in summer, usually...
ok I don't mind taking a lateral flow to travel abroad, the worry with booking anything in advance though is how quickly things can change maybe in a few more months will be dropped.
I understand your concerns and the fact is that in the current situation with covid, no one can guarantee anything, but as we get closer to summer..I think with the current government we don't expect all restrictions to be reduced, but I think that won't change from the current regime either...maybe it will get better but i don't think to get worse...they need tourism to run over the economy...harder restrictions are expected from september or octomber
pound is very strong against the dollar too and I'm sure that is because we dropped all our restrictions and we let Americans enter. My bf is American and he can visit me and go back to America but I still can't visit him lol.
yeah they do, I went to Mexico this year due to their lack of restrictions and no force on vaccines, Mexico is BOOMING right now and the prices of everything there is the same as London even though it's a third world country. Other countries really need to let the grip go if they want to stay afloat with tourism.
