For the third week of the Unforgettable Italy contest I have decided to propose a picture of a corner of the house where my wife has grown up, the one I prefer as it keeps all the old country tools used by her parents and grandparents in their daily work in the fields.
On the right you can see an old work saw, used with tractors to cut wood, while on the left you can see the final part of a bulldozer, which, like its "colleague" who has been keeping it company next to the wall for years, shows all the signs of its honourable career.
In addition to its coasts, monuments, museums and of course its food, Italy is also characterised by its lush countryside. Unlike the other countries of Western Europe, the land that gave birth, among others, to Dante and Leonardo, does not have among its main cities metropolises of the calibre of London or Paris and therefore, according to the latest statistical research, almost one Italian in every two lives in small or medium-sized towns, with a significant half of the latter choosing to live in rural areas.
Once upon a time, life in the countryside had a greater impact on the country's economy, but with the modernisation of society over the last century, there has been a steady flow of migrants to the large urban centres; however, this situation seems to be bucking the trend in some parts of southern Europe, especially in Spain and Italy, and property prices outside the large population centres have risen sharply.
Who knows, maybe soon, driven by the uncertainty of a life spent among colourful regions and activities that are closed or open depending on health data, many people will not choose to go back to the old ways and guarantee themselves a bit of freedom in contact with nature and animals.

Per la terza settimana del concorso Unforgettable Italy ho pensato di proporre la fotografia di un angolo della casa nella quale è cresciuta mia moglie, quello che preferisco in quanto tiene conservati tutti i vecchi attrezzi di campagna utilizzati dai genitori e dai nonni nel lavoro quotidiano nei campi.
A destra potete vedere un'antica sega da lavoro, utilizzata con i trattori per tagliare la legna, mentre a sinistra si può notare la parte finale di una ruspa, che come il suo "collega" cha da anni le fa compagnia accanto al muretto, mostra tutti i segni della sua onorata carriera.
L'Italia, oltre alle sue coste, i monumenti, i musei e naturalmente il cibo, è anche caratterizzata da rigogliose campagne. A differenza degli altri Stati dell'ovest Europa infatti, il Paese che ha dato i natali, tra gli altri, a Dante e Leonardo, non vede tra le sue città principali metropoli del calibro di Londra o Parigi e pertanto quasi un italiano su due, secondo le ultime ricerche statistiche, vive in centri medi o piccoli, con una buona metà di questi ultimi che sceglie di abitare in zone rurali.
Un tempo la vita in campagna aveva un'incidenza maggiore nell'economia del Paese, ma con la modernizzazione della società nell'ultimo secolo si è assistito a continui flussi migratori verso i grandi centri urbani; tuttavia questa situazione pare registrare dati in netta controtendenza in alcune zone del sud dell'Europa, specialmente in Spagna e in Italia e i prezzi delle proprietà immobiliari al di fuori dei grandi centri abitati hanno subito una decisa impennata.
Chissà che presto, spinti dall'incertezza di una vita trascorsa tra regioni colorate e attività chiuse o aperte a seconda di dati sanitari, molti non scelgano di ritornare all'antico e di garantirsi un po' di libertà a contatto con la natura e con gli animali.
