Dear friends, lovers of Italian football,
it seems now confirmed, net of upsets always possible in a particular season like this one, that the discourse for the Scudetto is destined to remain a two-way affair between the Milanese teams, both winners of their respective commitments during the last day of the Serie A.
The most difficult task was for the Antonio Conte's Inter, who, after a draw and a defeat obtained in the previous two days, hosted the Juventus, who, on the contrary, were able to come to San Siro with nine points collected in three games, in addition to the success obtained in extra time in the Coppa Italia against Genoa.
However, the Nerazzurri's victory was as clear-cut as it was alarming for the other side: the difference in quality seen between the two teams, highlighted since the beginning of the season and exacerbated by the simultaneous absences among the Bianconeri of Alex Sandro, De Ligt and Cuadrado, not only determined a defeat without appeal for Pirlo's men, but also dramatically highlighted the incompleteness of the Bianconeri's project, which sees its achilles heel in the midfield.
The growth in the quality of the gameplay and the maturation of the younger players have so far been only partially seen and the Bianconeri are now, on the eve of the Supercoppa, facing the first real decisive moment of the season: a new defeat against Napoli, in Wednesday's final, would risk plunging the environment into a depressive crisis, parallel to what happened in the seasons of the seventh places before the winning cycle, as well as questioning in an almost irreversible way the goodness of the choice made with Andrea Pirlo.
The opposite was true for Inter, who outclassed their rivals in every aspect of the game, from technical to tactical. The first victory as a coach obtained against Juventus by Antonio Conte, has shown even more to the eyes of fans how the Nerazzurri, mostly free of European "distractions", are the real favourites to win the title. The only variable that could, in my opinion, condition the ride of Inter towards the title, coincides with the corporate situation and with the bellyaches of Suning, looking for partners or investors to take over at least part of the toy that has become uncomfortable.
Who continues to enjoy a solitary first place, however, is still Milan, who also ran in Cagliari, thanks to the double of the returning Ibrahimovic, who first unblocked the match thanks to the twelfth penalty of the season granted to his team, then doubled as a great striker, skilled and lucky in sprinting at the right time, positioning his left foot a few millimeters before offside, as the VAR review has wisely illustrated.
The right seasons can also be recognised by these details: opponents see goals cancelled out for a matter of millimetres or abstruse geometric projections, and you get them validated for the same reasons.
The market men of the leading team, moreover, have shored up the roster in these hours with two very positive additions, in my opinion, taking Meité from Torino (one of the best midfielders in Serie A), but above all bringing back to Italy an old lion like Mario Mandzukic, who, if he will be able to return in acceptable physical shape to his second tricolour adventure, will undoubtedly be able to provide even more alternatives to the attack of Pioli.
The other great expectation of the day was for the Roman derby, called to confirm the high ranking ambitions of Roma or to revive the Lazio of Simone Inzaghi in the fight for the qualification to the next European cups. I had already predicted weeks ago that Roma would not be able to compete for the top positions in the league table, given the difficulties shown in all the challenges with the big teams this year, and the derby, lost badly 3-0, confirmed once again the tactical confusion of the team coached by Fonseca, who for the umpteenth time melted like snow in the sun, especially in defence.
This way SS Lazio joins the group of the pretenders for the third and fourth place, led in this moment, despite the five defeats already suffered in the season, by Napoli, which crushed 6-0 the Fiorentina, arrived at the umpteenth depressing test of the season. I don't know if with Iachini the Viola would have had a few more points in the standings (I think so), but they probably wouldn't have gone through similar humiliations and a negative series that lasted several games, like the one suffered since the beginning of the Prandelli management.
The goal machine of Atalanta unexpectedly stops at 0-0, paying too much for the fatigues of the Italian Cup, in front of Genoa revamped by coach Ballardini. I'm usually against coach changes (especially when incomprehensible and wanted only by the bad moons of incompetent presidents), but I have to admit that in some cases there are environments that need a whiplash to give depth to the unexpressed qualities: since the Ligurians have returned in the hands of the coach from Ravenna, they have collected eight points in five games (more than they had obtained in the rest of the championship), losing only to Sassuolo a few minutes before the end.
The same path I expect Parma to take, in a few weeks time, as well, reassigned to the hands of Roberto D'Aversa, the coach who had led them from the Serie C to the Serie A and who had been inexplicably fired on the eve of the championship. In the derby against Sassuolo, Parma returned to show the characteristics that had led them to play two excellent seasons, with pressing, defensive attention and fast restarts, and was mocked only in the second half by the equalizing goal scored by Djuricic on a penalty kick.

After the umpteenth disappointing test, with the 0-0 home draw with Spezia (which played in a numerical inferiority practically the whole match, due to the expulsion in the eighth minute of Vignali), also Torino FC decides to change coach, dismissing Giampaolo (who could clamorously become coach of Poland) to rely on Davide Nicola, back on the bench of Genoa, led to salvation in the second half of last season.
Soon we will find out if the difficulties of the second team of the city of Turin were all due to the former coach of Milan, or if, as I believe, they are more the result of a wrong assembly from the foundations, built on the cheap by an entrepreneur like Urbano Cairo, for whom football has always been at the bottom of the list of interests.
The last day of the first half of the season features an interesting match between Milan and Atalanta, while Inter will play against Udinese. Napoli and Juventus, who will be playing in the middle of the week for the Italian Super Cup, face Verona and Bologna respectively, while Roma will be looking for redemption against Spezia.

Cari amici, amanti del calcio italiano,
sembra ormai confermato, al netto di stravolgimenti sempre possibili in una stagione particolare come questa, come il discorso per lo scudetto sia destinato a rimanere un affare a due tra le squadre milanesi, entrambe uscite vincitrici dal rispettivo impegno durante l'ultima giornata di Serie A.
L'impegno più difficile, sulla carta, spettava all'Inter di Antonio Conte, che reduce da un pareggio ed una sconfitta ottenuti nelle due precedenti giornate, ospitava la Juventus, capace al contrario di presentarsi a San Siro con un bottino di nove punti raccolti in tre partite, oltre al successo ottenuto ai tempi supplementari in Coppa Italia contro il Genoa.
La vittoria dei nerazzurri è risultata tuttavia tanto netta quanto allarmante per la controparte: la differenza di qualità vista tra l'organico delle due squadre, evidenziata fin da inizio stagione e acuita dalle contemporanee assenze tra i bianconeri di Alex Sandro, De Ligt e Cuadrado, ha non solo determinato una sconfitta senza appello per gli uomini di Pirlo, ma anche messo drammaticamente in luce l'incompiutezza del progetto bianconero, che vede nel centrocampo il suo tallone d'achille.
La crescita nella qualità del gioco e la maturazione degli interpreti più giovani si sono viste fin qui solo parzialmente e i bianconeri si trovano ora, alla vigilia della Supercoppa, di fronte al primo vero momento decisivo della stagione: una nuova sconfitta contro il Napoli, nella finale di mercoledì, rischierebbe di far sprofondare l'ambiente all'interno di una crisi depressiva, parallelamente a quanto successo nelle stagioni dei settimi posti pre-ciclo vincente, oltre che di mettere in discussione in maniere pressoché irreversibile la bontà della scelta fatta con Andrea Pirlo.
Discorso diametralmente opposto invece per l'Inter, che ha surclassato i rivali in ogni aspetto della partita, da quello tecnico a quello tattico. La prima vittoria da allenatore ottenuta contro la Juventus da Antonio Conte, ha mostrato ancora di più agli occhi degli appassionati come siano i nerazzurri, per lo più privi di distrazioni europee, i veri favoriti per la conquista dello scudetto. L'unica variabile che potrebbe, a mio avviso, condizionare la cavalcata dell'Inter verso il titolo coincide con la situazione societaria, e con i mal di pancia di Suning, in cerca di partner o investitori per rilevare almeno una parte del giocattolo diventato scomodo.
Chi continua a godere di un primo posto in solitaria però è ancora il Milan, corsaro anche a Cagliari, grazie alla doppietta del rientrante Ibrahimovic, che prima sblocca la partita grazie al dodicesimo rigore stagionale concesso alla sua squadra, poi raddoppia da grande attaccante, abile e fortunato nello scattare al momento giusto, posizionando il suo piede sinistro qualche millimetro prima del fuorigioco, come la revisione del VAR ha sapientemente illustrato.
Le stagioni giuste si riconoscono anche da questi particolari: agli avversari annullano goal per una questione di millimetri o proiezioni geometriche astruse, e a te li convalidano.
Gli uomini mercato della capolista inoltre, hanno puntellato in queste ore la rosa con due innesti a mio giudizio quanto mai positivi, prendendo Meité dal Torino (uno dei centrocampisti migliori in Serie A), ma soprattutto riportando in Italia un vecchio leone come Mario Mandzukic, che se saprà ripresentarsi in forma accettabile alla sua seconda avventura tricolore, sarà senza dubbio in grado di fornire ancora più alternative all'attacco di Pioli.
L'altra grande attesa della giornata era per il derby romano, chiamato a confermare le ambizioni di alta classifica della Roma o a rilanciare la Lazio di Simone Inzaghi nella lotta per la qualificazione alle prossime coppe europee. Avevo predetto già settimane addietro una Roma non in grado di competere per le primissime posizioni della classifica, viste le difficoltà mostrate in tutte le sfide con le grandi quest'anno, e il derby, perso malamente 3-0, ha confermato ancora una volta la confusione tattica della squadra allenata da Fonseca, che per l'ennesima volta si è sciolta come neve al sole, specialmente in difesa.
La Lazio si accoda così al gruppo delle pretendenti per il terzo e quarto posto, capeggiato in questo momento, nonostante le cinque sconfitte già patite in stagione, dal Napoli, che ha schiantato 6-0 la Fiorentina, giunta all'ennesima prova deprimente di stagione. Non so se con Iachini i viola avrebbero avuto qualche punto in più in classifica (credo di sì), ma probabilmente non sarebbero andato incontro ad umiliazioni simili e ad una serie negativa protratta diverse partite, come quella subita dall'inizio della gestione Prandelli.
Si ferma inaspettatamente sullo 0-0 la macchina da goal dell'Atalanta, che paga eccessivamente le fatiche di Coppa Italia, di fronte al Genoa rigalvanizzato alla grande da mister Ballardini. Sono solitamente contrario ai cambi di allenatore (specialmete quando incomprensibili e voluti solo dalle lune storte di presidenti incompetenti), ma devo riconoscere che in alcuni casi esistono ambienti che necessitano di una sferzata per dare fondo alle qualità inespresse: da quando i liguri sono tornati nelle mani dell'allenatore ravennate, hanno racimolato ben otto punti in cinque partite (più di quanti ne erano stati realizzati in tutto il resto del campionato), perdendo solo a Sassuolo a pochi minuti dalla fine.
Percorso che mi aspetto intraprenda, da qui a poche settimane, anche il Parma, riassegnato alle mani di Roberto D'Aversa, tecnico che l'aveva condotto dalla Serie C alla Serie A e che era stato inspiegabilmente messo da parte alla vigilia del campionato. Nel derby emiliano col Sassuolo, il Parma è tornato a mostrare quelle caratteristiche che l'avevano portato a disputare due ottime stagioni, con pressing, attenzione difensiva e ripartenze veloci, ed è stato beffato solo in pieno recupero dal goal del pareggio messo a segno da Djuricic su calcio di rigore.
Dopo l'ennesima prova deludente, con il pareggio casalingo 0-0 con lo Spezia (che ha giocato in inferiorità numerica praticamente tutta la partita, per l'espulsione al ottavo minuto di Vignali), anche il Torino si decide a cambiare allenatore, esonerando Giampaolo (che potrebbe clamorosamente diventare C.T. della Polonia) per affidarsi a Davide Nicola, reduce dall'esperienza sulla panchina del Genoa, condotto alla salvezza nella seconda parte della scorsa stagione. Presto si scoprirà se le difficoltà della seconda squadra della città di Torino erano tutte imputabili all'ex tecnico del Milan, o se, come credo, siano più figlie di un assemblaggio sbagliato dalle fondamenta, costruito al risparmio da un imprenditore come Urbano Cairo, per il quale il calcio è sempre stato all'ultimo posto nella classifica degli interessi.
L'ultima giornata del girone d'andata prevede l'interessante incrocio tra Milan e Atalanta, mentre l'Inter se la vedrà in trasferta con l'Udinese. Il Napoli e la Juventus, che si giocheranno in settimana la Supercoppa italiana, sono attese rispettivamente dagli impegni con Verona e Bologna, mentre è chiamata ad un pronto riscatto la Roma, che ospiterà lo Spezia.
