Dear friends, lovers of Italian football,
the Italian Cup round of 16 has been almost completely archived, with all the great teams having passed the round (with the exception of Sassuolo, unexpectedly eliminated by Spal), the Serie A is ready to start again with the penultimate day of the first half of the season, which could already crown Milan, first with three points ahead of Inter, winter champion.
The leader will benefit from a favorable round, which will see it committed on the field of Cagliari, in the middle of a crisis of results (four defeats in a row, plus the one in the Italian Cup), and the direct clashes between the pursuers: at the Olimpico there will be the derby between Lazio and Roma, but the eyes of most of the fans will be turned to the Meazza stadium in Milan, where** Inter** and Juventus will challenge each other for the 88th time.
The history of the "derby of Italy" played in the Lombard capital, speaks of a supremacy of the hosts rather evident: in fact, there are 35 victories of the Nerazzurri, against 24 of their rivals, but be careful, because in the last ten trips to San Siro Juventus has obtained five wins and four draws, leaving defeated only in 2016 (one of the rare successes of Frank de Boer on the bench of Inter). Furthermore, the Italian champions are the only team in the Serie A against whom Antonio Conte has lost since he began his coaching career.
The history of Inter-Juventus is full of anecdotes and rivalry, which exploded especially after the facts of "Calciopoli", which condemned the Piedmontese to Serie B, benefiting the Inter of a championship won as third in the standings, despite the fact that, months later, the sports prosecutor Stefano Palazzi had accused the Milanese team (saved by the statute of limitations) of the same offences ascribed to Juventus.
A century seems to have passed since those events: the Bianconeri are back on the Italian and European scene, while for Inter this could be the occasion to finally conquer a scudetto without shadows: let's live again the most beautiful challenges of the past between Inter and Juventus, hoping that sportsmanship and entertainment will triumph over bitterness and complaints that have often been the counterpart to the challenge.
Inter's most exciting victory
Inter v Juventus 4-0 (11 November 1979)
On the eighth day of the 1979/80 championship, the San Siro stadium was decorated with twenty thousand anti-violence carnations to welcome Inter and Juventus, respectively first and fourth in the standings, but separated only by three points.
The team of Trapattoni played a great first half, engaging several times the Inter goalkeeper Bordon, but could not take the lead, and as it often happens in football, suffered a goal at the first real opportunity of the opponents, when in the second minute of the second half Altobelli scored a penalty kick that he had just procured.
Juventus were stunned and conceded the second goal two minutes later, again by Altobelli, who, despite being offside, pierced Zoff from a few steps; the Piedmontese got nervous and it became child's play for Inter to strike on the counter-attack with Muraro and again with Altobelli, who crowned an unforgettable afternoon by scoring a hat-trick.
Inter won their twelfth title mathematically on the penultimate day, while Juventus finished second, three points behind the Nerazzurri.
Juventus' most exciting victory
Inter v Juventus 2-3 (28 April 2018)
After losing the home match against Napoli, which brought Maurizio Sarri's team closer to the Bianconeri, now only one point away from the leaders, Juventus play a good part of the Scudetto against Inter, in the middle of the race for the qualification to the Champions League of the following year.
The Bianconeri started with their heads down, forcing their rivals into their own half of the field and took the lead after just twelve minutes thanks to a precise left-footed shot from Douglas Costa, which went in to the left of Handanovic. Two minutes later the referee Orsato, called by the VAR, turned the yellow card given to Vecino, guilty of a bad foul on Mandzukic, into red, but in a paradoxical way the Old Lady, instead of taking advantage of the opponent in numerical inferiority, slowly faded away.

Mauro Icardi equalised in the sixth minute of the second half with a great header, changing the game's momentum. Orsato pardoned Pjanic who had already been cautioned, failing to sanction a bad entrance by the Bosnian with a deserved yellow card, but a few minutes later, from a great action by Perisic on the left, an own goal by Barzagli brought Inter ahead. For the Italian champions it looked like the final knockout blow, but just as half of Italy was already imagining Napoli taking the lead the next day, Cuadrado equalised three minutes from the end and, in the next action, a header by Higuain, following a free-kick taken by Dybala, gave the guests the victory.
The failure to expel Pjanic was taken as an alibi by the Neapolitan environment, and by the then Neapolitan coach Maurizio Sarri, for the defeat suffered by Napoli on the field of Florence the next day (it was openly spoken of "scudetto lost in the hotel"); Juve will thus be able to fly towards the thirty-sixth championship in its history, while for Inter the doors of qualification for the Champions League will open, but only at the last match, when a naive penalty caused by De Vrij (who had already moved to Inter for the following season) in the direct match against Lazio, started the comeback of the Nerazzurri (until then 2-1 down), culminating with the goal of Vecino nine minutes from the end.
Inter's biggest victory
Inter v Juventus 6-0 (04 April 1954)
On an incredible spring afternoon, Inter coached by Alfredo Foni, who made the Italian catenaccio his main system of play, humiliated Juventus first in the standings (on a par with Fiorentina), overtaking them and undermining their certainties permanently.
The Bianconeri suffered more than usual from the goal scored in a clear offside position by the Swedish forward Skoglund and nervous they were unable to respond, leaving the side to the Nerazzurri's counter-attacks: Inter hit a crossbar shortly afterwards, and doubled the score on the half-hour with Armano, who mocked the static opponent's defence, sending the home crowd into raptures.
The guests lost their striker Muccinelli to injury and in ten against eleven (at the time there were no substitutions) they finally sank due to fatigue in the last part of the match, when they were forced to suffer the double of Brighenti and the goals of Skoglund and Nesti.
Inter lost the top of the table again the following week, but found it again with three days to go, keeping it until the Scudetto was won, with a one-point advantage over Juventus.
Juventus' biggest victory
Inter v Juventus 0-3 (24 April 1960)
The 1959/60 season of the Inter was a decidedly unsuccessful one, destined to end with a disappointing fourth place, but which gave way, in the summer, to the Helenio Herrera revolution.
After losing the direct match in Turin in the winter, the Nerazzurri were beaten by Juventus in the return match played on the 28th day. The Bianconeri dominated the match from the outset, so much so that the narrow lead at the end of the first half, thanks to a goal from Omar Sivori, appeared even slender to the Old Lady supporters.
In the second half, Sivori again and finally Boniperti fixed the result at 0-3, for a fundamental victory that smelt of the Scudetto, a trophy that the Piedmontese won for the eleventh time, eight points ahead of Fiorentina.

Cari amici, amanti del calcio italiano,
archiviati quasi totalmente gli ottavi di finale di Coppa Italia, che hanno visto il superamento del turno di tutte le grandi squadra (ad eccezione del Sassuolo, eliminato inaspettatamente dalla Spal), la Serie A è pronta a ripartire con la penultima giornata del girone d'andata, che potrebbe già laureare il Milan, primo con tre punti di vantaggio sull'Inter, campione d'inverno.
La capolista potrà infatti beneficiare di un turno sulla carta favorevole, che la vedrà impegnata sul campo del Cagliari, nel bel mezzo di una crisi di risultati (quattro sconfitte di fila, più quella in Coppa Italia), e degli scontri diretti tra le inseguitrici: all'Olimpico andrà di scena infatti il derby capitolino tra Lazio e Roma, ma gli occhi di buona parte degli appassionati saranno comunque rivolti sullo stadio Meazza di Milano, dove** Inter** e Juventus si sfideranno per l'ottantottesima volta.
I precedenti del "derby d'Italia" disputati nel capoluogo lombardo, parlano di una supremazia dei padroni di casa piuttosto evidente: sono 35 infatti le vittorie dei nerazzurri, contro le 24 dei rivali, ma attenzione, perchè nelle ultime dieci trasferte a San Siro la Juventus ha ottenuto cinque vittorie e quattro pareggi, uscendo sconfitta solo nel 2016 (uno dei rari successi di Frank de Boer sulla panchina dell'Inter). Inoltre la formazione campione d'Italia è l'unica della Serie A contro la quale Antonio Conte ha sempre perso da quando ha iniziato la carriera di allenatore.
La storia di Inter-Juventus è costellata di aneddoti e rivalità, esplosa soprattutto dopo i fatti di Calciopoli, che hanno condannato i piemontesi in Serie B, beneficiando l'Inter di uno scudetto vinto da terza in classifica, nonostante, mesi dopo, il procuratore sportivo Stefano Palazzi avesse accusato la società meneghina (salvata dalla prescrizione) degli stessi illeciti ascritti alla Juventus.
Da quei fatti sembra passato un secolo: i bianconeri sono tornati prepotentemente sulla scena italiana ed europea, mentre per l'Inter questa potrebbe essere l'occasione di conquistare finalmente uno scudetto senza ombre: riviviamo quindi di seguito le più belle sfide del passato tra Inter e Juventus, con la speranza che la sportività e il bel gioco trionfino sull'acredine e sulle lamentele che spesso hanno fatto da contraltare alla sfida.
La più bella vittoria dell'Inter
Inter-Juventus 4-0 (11 novembre 1979)
E' uno stadio di San Siro ornato con ventimila garofani anti violenza, quello che accoglie, all'ottava giornata del campionato 1979/80, Inter e Juventus, rispettivamente prima e quarta della classifica, ma separate solamente da tre punti.
La squadra di Trapattoni gioca un gran primo tempo, impegnando più volte il portiere interista Bordon, ma non riesce a passare in vantaggio, e come spesso capita nel calcio, subisce goal alla prima vera occasione degli avversari, quando al secondo minuto della ripresa Altobelli realizza un calcio di rigore che si è appena procurato.
La Juventus rimane stordita e incassa il secondo goal dei padroni di casa due minuti dopo, sempre sai piedi di Altobelli, che in sispetto fuorigioco trafigge Zoff da pochi passi; i piemontesi si innervosiscono e per l'Inter diventa un gioco da ragazzi colpire in contropiede con Muraro e ancora con Altobelli, che corona così un pomeriggio indimenticabile mettendo a segno una tripletta.
L'Inter vincerà il suo dodicesimo titolo matematicamente alla penultima giornata, mentre la Juventus chiuderà seconda, a tre punti dai nerazzurri.
La più bella vittoria della Juventus
Inter-Juventus 2-3 (28 aprile 2018)
Dopo aver perso malamente lo scontro diretto casalingo con il Napoli, che ha avvicinato la squadra di Maurizio Sarri ad un solo punto di distanza dai bianconeri capolisti, la Juventus si gioca buona parte dello scudetto contro l'Inter, in piena corsa per ottenere la qualificazione alla Champions League dell'anno dopo.
I bianconeri partono a testa bassa, costringendo i rivali nella propria metà campo e passano in vantaggio dopo soli dodici minuti grazie ad un preciso sinistro di Douglas Costa, che si insacca alla sinistra di Handanovic. Due minuti dopo l'arbitro Orsato, richiamato dal VAR, trasforma in rosso il cartellino giallo assegnato a Vecino, reo di un brutto fallo su Mandzukic, ma in maniera paradossale la Vecchia Signora, invece di approfittare dell'avversario ferito, si spegne lentamente.
Mauro Icardi pareggia al sesto minuto della ripresa con un gran colpo di testa, cambiando l'inerzia della partita. Orsato grazia Pjanic già ammonito, non sanzionando una brutta entrata del bosniaco con un meritato cartellino giallo, ma pochi minuti dopo, da una grande azione di Perisic sulla sinistra, un'autorete di Barzagli porta incredibilmente in vantaggio l'Inter. Per i campioni d'Italia sembra il colpo del K.O. definitivo, ma proprio mentre mezza Italia calcistica immagina già il sorpasso del Napoli, impegnato il giorno dopo, Cuadrado pareggia a tre minuti dalla fine e, nell'azione successiva, un colpo di testa di Higuain, sugli sviluppi di un calcio di punizione battuto da Dybala, regala la vittoria agli ospiti.
La mancata espulsione di Pjanic verrà presa ad alibi dall'ambiente napoletano, e dall'allora allenatore partenopeo Maurizio Sarri, per la sconfitta patita dagli azzurri sul campo di Firenze il giorno dopo (si parlerà apertamente di "scudetto perso in albergo"); la Juve potrà così involarsi verso il trentaseiesimo scudetto della sua storia, mentre per l'Inter si apriranno le porte della qualificazione alla Champions League, ma solo all'ultima partita, quando un ingenuo rigore provocato da De Vrij (già accasatosi all'Inter per la stagione successiva) nello scontro diretto con la Lazio, darà l'avvio alla rimonta dei nerazzurri (fino a quel momento sotto 2-1), culminata con il goal di Vecino a nove minuti dalla fine.
La vittoria più larga dell'Inter
Inter-Juventus 6-0 (04 aprile 1954)
In un incredibile pomeriggio primaverile, l'Inter allenata da Alfredo Foni, che fa del catenaccio all'italiana il suo sistema di gioco principale, umilia la Juventus prima in classifica (alla pari con la Fiorentina), scavalcandola e minandone le certezze in maniera permanente.
I bianconeri patiscono più del lecito la rete realizzata in palese fuorigioco dall'attaccante svedese Skoglund e innervositi non riescono a rispondere, lasciando il fianco alle ripartenze nerazzurre: l'Inter colpisce una traversa poco dopo, e raddoppia alla mezz'ora con Armano, che si fa beffe della statica difesa avversaria mandando in visibilio il pubblico di casa.
Gli ospiti perdono per infortunio la punta Muccinelli e in dieci contro undici (all'epoca non erano previste sostituzioni) affondano definitivamente per la stanchezza nell'ultima parte di gara, quando sono costretti a subire la doppietta di Brighenti e le reti di Skoglund e Nesti.
L'Inter perderà di nuovo la vetta della classifica nella settimana successiva, ma la ritroverà a tre giornate dal termine, conservandola fino alla conquista dello scudetto, vinto con un punto di vantaggio proprio sulla Juventus.
La vittoria più larga della Juventus
Inter-Juventus 0-3 (24 aprile 1960)
Una stagione decisamente fallimentare quella dell'Inter nell'annata 1959/60, destinata a concludersi con un deludente quarto posto, ma che darà il via, in estate, alla rivoluzione targata Helenio Herrera.
Dopo aver perso lo scontro diretto di Torino in inverno, i nerazzurri vengono superati dalla Juventus anche in casa, nella partita di ritorno disputata alla ventottesima giornata. I bianconeri dominano l'incontro fin dalle primissime battute, tanto che il vantaggio di misura al termine del primo tempo, concretizzato grazie ad una rete di Omar Sivori, appare stretto ai supporters della Vecchia Signora.
Nel secondo tempo ancora Sivori e infine Boniperti fissano il risultato sul definitivo 0-3, per una vittoria fondamentale che profuma di scudetto, trofeo che i piemontesi vinceranno per l'undicesima volta con otto punti di vantaggio sulla Fiorentina.
