in Hindwhale Community2 years ago

I am Jyoti from India and I would love take part in this contest: Steemit Enagagement Challenge: Season 6 Week 1 - What outdoor games did you play as a child that aren't famous worldwide? organised by #hindwhale,

I also express my gratitude to all our team and participant for this excellent event and for its great success.

People who were born in the 1990s were less knowledgeable of rapidly evolving technology. Money can never buy happiness. Many adults grin when they think of kids from the 80s and 90s. That is how I am. Despite the demise of real happiness, a treasure that will live on in the hearts of many people, yes I mean the game we played in our childhood.

The events or games will only be known to people born in the 1990s or 80s, and they are blessed, having many happy memories and some unforgettable experiences Children born in the 1980s and 1990s are the recipients. Sharing broken pencils were used to build friendships are beautiful memories that grow with time. There were many games to list out but I am going to tell you about few games that I enjoyed in my childhood.

What outdoor games did you play as a child that aren't famous worldwide?

Kayiru Thannduthal(Skipping)

Skipping is one of the most favourable game for girls While both solo and group skipping were activities we enjoyed as children, group skiing is more exciting and fun. Two children grip the rope and rotate it up and down while two further children jump in between the rope. For girls, skipping is highly significant. It is possible to exercise safely and reduce weight without gaining any more. Men can benefit from this sport as well. Skipping helps to build up the muscles in the back legs.

There are numerous advantages to skipping, including Skipping helps you build reflex action, quickness, and hand-foot-brain synchronisation. Two persons can learn to coordinate their movements with one another by jumping rope together. numerous bodily functions, including heart rate, blood pressure, etc.

Pachai kuthirai (Green Horse)

While playing this game children have to choose the horse first and the person who is the horse has to sit first and then crouch and stand like a horse and others will jump over him. Children taking part in the game must jump without tripping over the extended leg.

There are some stages in the horse that have their positions such as the cross-legged, sit & leg-crossed hand on the floor, and hand-crossed which gets taller. When certain limits are reached, the seated individual gets up and bows. He ought to leap with his hands on his back as well.

The height will continue to rise. If the jumper touches the horse he will be lost and become a horse, needing to sit down on the ground and spread his legs. Once more, the game will go on, whoever clears the height will be the winner, and the goal will be to demonstrate the child's athletic prowess. One of the modern sports is the high jump.

Orukudam Thanni (Pour a Pot of water to grow a flower)

Two children stand opposite one another and form an arch with their hands by holding them in the air with both hands. The remainder of the group lines up and passes through the arch. The song ha counting the number as the children pass through the arch The two children who are creating the arch at the end of the song (on the word "poothucham") catch anyone who is underneath it at the same time the song ends, the child caught will be considered out.

The song is like this
Oru kudam thanni oothi ...Oru poo poothucham
Rendu kudam thanni oothi...Rendupoo poothucham
Moondru kudam thanni oothi... Moondru poo poothucham
Naangu kudam thanni oothi... Naangu poo poothucham
Aainthu kudam thanni oothi... Aainthu poo poothucham
Aru kudam thanni oothi... Aru poo poothucham
Elu kudam thanni oothi... Elu poo poothucham
Ettu kudam thanni oothi ...Ettu poo poothucham.....

The catching session will continue untill all the kids captured OUT.

Eliyum Poonaiyum(Cay and Mouse)

The cat and mouse game players should form a circle and stand there. They should both portray cats and mice, respectively. Inside the circle should be the person playing the mouse, and outside should be the person playing the cat.
What is the mouse doing, the cat asked at this point? The query opens the song. The group in a circle should respond, "Sleeping." Once more, the cat queries, "What is the mouse doing?" I'll continue to listen. The participants in the circle should keep responding, "wake up, brush teeth, eat, put on shirt," in accordance with the mouse's behaviours.

The cat is prepared to catch the mouse when it eventually says, "Come out." The mouse will flee if the cat inside the circle. The rat enters the circle when the cat exits. People who are standing in the circle are supporting the rat. Beyond that, the game is finished if the cat catches the mouse.

The game is then continued by two more players who transform into a mouse and a cat. Which rat is the smartest? Is it a feline? - The goal of this game is to test the kids' physical prowess and acting abilities. This game is also played as Tiger and goat, Fox and thief etc.

Paandiyattam(Stapoo)

A game in which players create grids of rectangular boxes on the surface, while folding one leg and jumping with the other. In order to play this game, the player must throw a dull stone or a coin in the first level, walk on one foot in the following stages, return with the burnt stone, and so on. If the player jumps over the line or touch the line or take support other leg will be eliminates and consider as OUT. Once she out the other girl will get chance to complete the task, whoever completes all the task will be the winner. By playing this game kids can get benefits of leg muscles receive smooth movement from their nerves. Legs gain a lot of power. Kids will learn to balance in the hard moment by body and mind.

Conclusion

Our traditional games were enjoyable and nourishing for both body and spirit. Being led to a life of harmony, free from disease. Makes the mind happy and at ease. They don't exhibit signs of stress or nervousness. They preserved both the body and the soul. The persuasive message that we should play together to control emotions, to build the nature of living together, and to consider of success and failure as equal has been passed down to us by our ancestors through the traditional games of the Tamil people.

I wanto to invite @sofian88 @suboohi, @fjjrg, @msharif, @abiga554,@ngoenyi,@juichi, @astilem to take part in the contest. and all the best to all the participants.

Thank you for the great support

Hi jyoti-thelight, I share with you the idea that those distant times of technology, were much healthier, I was born in 74, my childhood was spent in what I call a golden age, we did not depend on the Internet to do homework, nor did we spend precious hours of our time glued to some screen, because even the cartoons we could watch on TV were scheduled for only two hours in the morning and two in the afternoon, so if I studied in the morning shift, I had to have lunch and do my homework early, and then I had to choose whether to watch the cartoons or go out to play with my friends, of course I preferred to have fun outside playing.

We were more active children, we did a lot of physical activity in between our games, we were also more dexterous and our nervous system was less stimulated. The games of those times contributed to our well being.

It was a pleasure to read you, I hope you have a beautiful day and much success.

Yes everything you say is true technology has changed our children and it makes me sad that today's children don't have the same pleasure we used to have.

Maybe, depending on the regions and the languages, most of the games were same due to the migration of people across countries

As I came across your posts, I just realized that we almost have the same local games. This brings me to my childhood memories. I doubt if today's generation experience or knows about this game.

Thank you for inviting me, friend.

Feedback / Note
  • You wrote wonderfully. I also played these games. But since we are from different countries, there is a little difference in language and some rules. I would like to talk specifically about the game Green Horse. This game is played with rhythm in our country. There are 10 rhythms in 10 steps, the rhythms get a little bigger with each step and are said in one breath. A very exciting childhood game.

  • Thank you very much for participating. Stay well, stay healthy. Best of luck.

Seeing all these childhood outdoor games listed in your article took my mind back to my childhood days and the memory seems fresh.
Good to know that you had fun during your early stage by engaging in these games.

Amazing entry
