My Favourite Mobile Phone Make/Model #ccc 2.37

in OCD5 years ago (edited)

First of all, I would like to thank @heartbeat1515 again for nominating me to participate in yet another contest. Since this week is about mobile phone / cell phones make model, I really can't tell much about which I love most, because every era has it's own favorable make and model. So, it will be unfair to comment across all my older phones. Generally, I use GSMArena to read technical data of a phone before I purchase, and therefore I'm going to use the same data to show you in comparison here. If you're going to read the technical detail, feel free to click on the link beneath each photograph below.

Alcatel Flash 2

In 2015, there's not much make or model has internal storage up to 16GB, light weight, 13MP main camera, and a 5MP selfie camera that come's with flash light! Seriously, this is the first time I heard of a smart phone has a selfie flashlight! It has an Octa-core 1.3Ghz CPU. At that time, majority of other branded phone are only at 4 core CPU, this has 8! Best of all, it only cost me RM499, whilst majority of other bigger brand with similar spec would cost me atleast RM2000 to begin with, immediately I bought it from Lazada, patiently waited for less than 24 hours and I got the phone! I served me 2 wonderful years, generally I have no complain until after 2 years of beaten up by me, software got a lot heavier, and the tiny 3000mah battery can no longer last the phone until end of the day and it started to shut off mid day and I will have to find plug point to charge it. I did try to look for replacement battery, that however its very rare in my country. If I were to buy it from eBay, the shipment itself would cost the phone. Some seller told me battery is a consumable product, and the product itself is considered as a whole product if the authority wanted to tax on it, it is heavily taxable as a consumer product than spare parts. I just do not want to go through the trouble of getting parts anymore, and finally resort to retire the phone(that happened after another year after I started using the next NEW phone).

Xiaomi Redmi 4X

Generally, the phone has a similar spec. The CPU speed is only 1.4GHz, which is only 0.1GHz different, and this has a 32GB internal storage and a 3GB ram. It ended up cost me about 700. Trust me, that's about the same as the TVC, because the discounted product price in the TVC is ONLY on the phone. Once you checked out the phone with all the chargers, the cables, the boxes and manual, it will eventually ended up similar to 700. This has a fingerprint sensor for phone unlock, but it doesn't have a selfie flash. Basically, I'm just having a slightly bigger capacity, slightly more capable RAM, and minor change in processing speed. What surprise me is, the same 13MP camera on this phone, does performed so much better than the previous phone. I'm aboslutely in love with this phone.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro

This is a rather interesting phone so far. I paid RM999 for it. It almost doubled the price of the first phone I owned since 2015. Spec wise, it's way capable compare to the previous two phones. It has a 4 lens camera that produce up to 64MP photograph. It also has a 20MP selfie camera. CPU is multi speed Octa-core, up to 2.05GHz processing speed and storage up to 128GB running on 6GB RAM. Battery capable of up to 4500mAh, despite the huge ass 6.5 inches ultra wide screen, the phone last me whole day. Literally from morning 5:30am all the way until I go to bed by around 1am the next day and it still have balance of 20~30% on standby. Technically, the phone is just way beyond my imagination, way more capable than I need.

My story for the past 5 years

Here's the roll down of how I started with these phones. I'm walking you through the stories so you have an idea how it evolved over the years and how I changed my appetite.

Alcatel Flash2

In 2015, I was just having trouble with my Knockoff Chinsung(China fake Korean brand) Note 2, it left me no choice but to look for a newer phone. What happened next shocked me as I finally found a proper smart phone that is so much capable, so fast, so high resolution camera, and even have a selfie flash light phone, and the price is like 1/3 of other phone. It's a very brave decision I bought the phone online considering I don't know what am I getting myself into.

Redmi 4X

What I got myself is a result of TV commercial, where I was having a short pilgrimage trip with ex-girlfriend @francesaw at Penang, the old phone died on me. causes me a lot of trouble where we weren't able to contact each other. By the time we found each other, went back to hotel, she went to bed and I was watching TV commercial, and this thing caught my attention due to the price of RM529 if I call the hotline. Ofcourse I did not call the line, I knew they're going to trick me to agree to extra accessories that I do not need and piled up the sale to a crazy amount. I noted the model and specs, whilst on our way back we stopped by my parent's house, and we proceed to YikFoong Complex to pay a visit to my ex-schoolmate to grab a phone. I have no regret on the phone, and I only hope they still sell this model, apparently time have moved on, so as mobile phone models. The phone went through war with me for more than 2 and a half years! Basically, I killed it with many occassion of whacking it on the table. Throw at the dog which chase me during my lunch hour walk. Sometimes I use it to crack a crab when going to seafood restaurant for a meal. One day, I was shutting my car door, and accidentally slipped my hands, phone fly away and fall. As usual, I picked it up and blow away dust, wiped it with my pants and put it back in my pocket. For the whole morning, the phone didn't ring even once, then only I realized the GSM signal is no longer working. It can't call in nor out. I sent it for repair, and the worker told me it wasn't expensive to change the card reader module, but the problem is China is currently having a pandemic, it's very hard to get part from that country. In view of the phone aged 2.5 years, the technician advised me to retired it rather than spending more on maintenance.

Redmi Note 8 Pro

The previous Redmi 4X, is now a backup camera for me. @annabellenoelle has semi right of use on that. I got myself a very powerful phone. Despite it's the most expensive amongst other I've purchased since 2015, but the performance and capabilities are 3 times more than the first phone. Generally, I'm happy with the phone. I wouldn't say I'm complaining on certain things, but I'd put it this way, I preferred the older phone. How and why? I'm going to talk a little bit more on the Final part of this article.

What's what

You see, a phone is only a phone. A camera is a camera. Nowadays, these phone has been developed to an extend that it's so powerful, even more powerful than a camera. It's like when you take a photograph with your phone, send it to the shop and ask the professionals to print it out, nobody will even know it's came from a point to shoot mobile phone camera. These technology made every single tom, dick and harry a professional photographer! I had to admit, it's so much easier to take a good shot with the latest technology. Pictures are so much clearer compare to the older phones.

Can you tell which one are from the latest Redmi and which are from the previous? I have a post regarding the camera quality comparison between the two latest phones I have now, if you're interested to find out, feel free to drop by this post to see the difference. If I have anything to say which phone do I favorite the most? I actually love all of them, but they're all my least favorite electronic device. At this junction, in this era, in this world, you just can't live without a mobile phone. How I wish it all goes back to the 90's? Terminator needs to use a public phone instead of dialing GSM. 20MP facing myself, there's nothing left for me to hide had I take a selfie. Rest assured, taking picture with 64MP, the picture you get from the shot is beyond your recognition because even your eyes can't see it that clearly. It's a trade off. You have the convenience of a mobile phone, you'll be tempted to spend more time with it.

Heheh.. I use gsmarena to compare phones too. These phones are pretty affordable aren't they? I have always wondered about these Android phones. They sound pretty good on adverts. I see that the newer Redmi has a wider range of view but it does make the objects look smaller but I suppose because it is panaroma. Does the OS go slow after a year or two? My mom had a Samsung once, and after a year, everything takes a while to load and storage space was always insufficient which was frustrating especially when I got her a microSD which most of the OS apps cannot be transferred to.

Thank you for your reply. There are few things to cover for the phones. I am not a specialist, so I'm not going to make a comprehensive comparison for you. Generally, the new phone has more battery capacity. The camera is 64MP, way beyond my eyes can understand. Even the selfie camera is 20MP. For the first time I took a selfie and looked at myself, to find my skin is so rough 😂 I don't know how the multi camera works, but trying to focus one thing is now a big job. The phone kinda has its own thinking. The phone will think for me what's good for me, which I don't always agree with. You wanna take a picture, so you can remember the thing, but the phone takes everything from the surrounding and shove it to you 😂

On hardware, memory is always the biggest problem all this while with different mobile phones. If you choose to buy a bigger capacity phone, you'll have to pay higher price. If you choose a lower capacity phone, it's good for one or two upgrades of the OS, after that will be suffering from insufficient memory. This time, I got myself a decent 128GB memory, I guess this will last me for another two years?

The old phone, I accidentally pressed on the factory reset the other day whilst I'm trying to backup. Since it's blank, I had it updated to the latest OS, and it's now function exactly the same as my new phone. Performance wise, I just can't tell the difference 😂 it's just as fast as the new phone. The only thing the old phone can't use now, is to call. So yeah, the old phone is still in use. My big kid use it as a tablet running on WiFi.

Glad you made it. I hope your computer are fix already. This is the first time I heard about gsmarena and it will be a very great use in the future.

I'm guessing that it is the below picture captured from the latest redmi because it seem to be able to capture more light.

After reading your link post, I think I'm right. Am I? I just noticed the wider angle at bottom picture too after reading. I'm not very good in looking at spec but this is 2 great post to be an additional knowledge to me. Thank you.

I wonder why your ex gf stop posting 3 months ago?

Engagement 5 with @davidke20.

The computer did not fix anything, but magically I can upload again 3 days later. Funny. I am doing a way 2 videos recorded since they're boring. Workout video to be continue as usual in March.

You are right, the lower photo which has a wider angle and brighter is from the new phone. I am still working on trying to love the photos from the new phone. If you read the link I shared in the article, it will take you back to last week where I make a full cover of different lighting photoshoot with both RedMies, you'll understand why do I prefer the old phones camera.

No right or wrong for both phones. I am just so used to the old phone and j know the new phone is the way to go, I'm just trying to get used to it and explore more to make it work for me 🙂

Thank God.

It is hard to change to something new once we are in love and use to the spec of our old phone. It does take me few years until I found a new favourite phone again.

You'll get used to it soon and hopefully this time it last more than 2 and a half year so that you won't have to find a new favourite so soon.

An upvote for you for joining this contest. Greetings @team-ccc.

So kind of you. Please spread love to new users. Next time give me a small vote, leave me a comment will do. Much love and support to the community.

We give when we can and if it's smal(ler) it's because we are out of VP. Enjoy your day.
