Achievement 6 | Task by @zmoreno: Understanding Curation and Community

in Newcomers' Community3 years ago (edited)

Hello to all my dear readers! I hope you are having an excellent evening. This time I will share, very glad to have made it this far, the fulfillment of my Achievement 6, the last one that our friend @cryptokannon has indicated to complete the Newcomers Program. Read on to learn a little more about our beloved Steemit platform with me as we answer the questions listed in this interesting task.

1. Do you understand how voting and curation work in steemit?

Of course I do!

Votes are the equivalent of "likes" in social networks, with the difference that in Steemit votes are intended to distribute monetary rewards, coming from the so-called "reward pool".

The voting power depends on the Steem Power of each user, since the more Steem Power you have, the more rewards will be distributed.

Votes are measured by a "power bar" called voting mana, which defines how much of our Steem Power we can reward a publication with and which gradually decreases as we vote.

At the beginning we have 100% of our voting mana. The more votes we cast, the voting mana will decrease, and so will the influence our vote will have on the publication. In specific terms, each vote consumes approximately 2% of our voting mana. Every day it is recharged by 20%.

That is to say, the recommended number of votes in order not to affect our voting mana would be 10 publications per day. This in order not to attack our voting power.

New users are only allowed to vote with 100% of their power, since our power is very low. This will only change when reaching 500 SP. At that time it will be possible to choose (through a percentage bar) how much a respective publication will be rewarded with.

When voting a publication with less than 100% of our voting power, our vote will have a minor influence on the distribution of the final rewards. However, constantly voting with 100% power will end up extinguishing the voting mana, so discretion is required.

There are also negative votes (marked with a "-" in the curators list), but these votes will very quickly use up the voting mana, being four times as much as a positive vote. For negative votes you don't get any healing reward, and it is recommended to use them only in case of a post that violates the community rules.

When distributing rewards at the time of payout, the curator (the person who votes) receives 50% of the amount he/she distributed. The other 50% goes to the author of the post or comment (you can also receive rewards for voting comments).

2. What happened if you vote a post before 5 minutes marks after posting?

The amount the curator receives from their corresponding 50% depends on the exact time the vote is made. Speaking in exact terms:

  • If you vote at the exact time of posting, 100% of the curation reward will remain in the Reward Pool.

  • After one minute, 80% remains in the Reward Pool and 20% will be received by the curator.

  • After two minutes, 60% remains in the Reward Pool and 40% will be received by the curator.

  • After three minutes, 40% remains in the Reward Pool and 60% will be received by the curator.

  • After four minutes, 20% remains in the Reward Pool and 80% will be received by the curator.

  • After five minutes (or later), 100% of the curator's reward will go to the curator.

That is, by voting five minutes after publication, the curator will receive his full reward (100%). Prior to this this value will be decreased.

3. Who will you vote for Steem Witness? Why?

What is a witness?

Witnesses are people in charge of creating blocks to keep the Blockchain running. For each Block they create, Witnesses are rewarded with Steem Power.

Witnesses are scheduled proportionally to the amount of weighted community approval they have. There is a top 21 of witnesses, which depends on how many steemians vote for the work of a certain witness.

The more Steem Power you have, the more power you have to catapult a witness to the top of the list. You can only vote for 30 Witnesses in total.

I would vote, based on my personal opinion, for the following witnesses:

  • @steemchiller: is the Witness at the top of the list of Witnesses. He constantly works to enable the Blockchain to function properly, being very active and functional. He also created steemworld.org, a page that helps a lot steemians who need to get information about their accounts and make delegations to other steemians in a simple way. He is definitely a steemian at heart who deserves a lot of votes.

  • @justyy: he is the third Witness on the list. Likewise, he constantly strives to fulfill his role within the Blockchain. He also created an extremely advanced and useful tool within the Blockchain, SteemYY.com. This tool helps steemians and other Witness to perform in the best way, so all his work to contribute to the growth of the Blockchain is appreciated.

  • @future.witness: is the fifth Witness on the list. After reading @futureshock's description, I was fascinated by their vision and ideas regarding the future of the Blockchain, assuring that their projects have enough transcendence to help the growth of the Blockchain, which is the most important thing. I find them a committed and admirable team.

  • @steem.history: I was surprised by this user's commitment to the Steemit community. He constantly posts updates of his work, demonstrating his effort and constancy in his work as a Witness, so I have no doubt he deserves a vote.

4. Which community will you join on Steemit and why?

Communities on Steemit are groups of people with common interests looking to support each other to grow in the Blockchain.

Since coming to Steemit a few months ago, I've been able to join wonderful communities that have helped me grow and develop, expanding my vision of what a Blockchain truly is and all the work that goes into it; I've met many people committed to giving Steemit the highest quality content and pushing the people who do it forward.

Among the communities I appreciate the most, I mention:

  • SteemShip: a community run primarily by the amazing and committed @shohana1, who always helps her members and pushes quality content on Steemit. In her community it's easy to feel welcome and comfortable, as she precisely seeks to create bonds of friendship among united steemians.

  • SteemWomenClub: this community opened the doors to Steemit for me, making me feel welcome and appreciated. It's run by wonderful women who appreciate each and every wonderful girl who joins, and each member strives to give varied and fantastic content (fashion, decor, cooking, stories, makeup, health care) to their community. It's definitely a beautiful place to be and share.

  • Writing&Reviews: is a community that seeks to share the best writings in literature and opinion; in it you can find the work of excellent writers and critics, people who strive to give the best to literature. It is run by two girls who always seek to reward quality content, in addition to organizing interesting and fascinating contests.

  • Stars of Steem: is a very diverse, colorful and fun community that supports all kinds of content and runs excellent contests. In it I have felt very comfortable and have met amazing people, many of them fellow countrymen.
