Achievement task 3 by @ tamighty || Task: Content etiquette

in Newcomers' Community3 years ago (edited)
Greetings steemians. Having completed my Achievement task 1 and 2, i'll proceed to my Achievement task 3.

I'm here to talk about content etiquette before then i'll like to talk about plagiarism.

Kunde and Karl worked as engineers in an engineering company where they produced different household appliances and other useful engineering tools with metals. Kunde and Karl worked as a team but Karl was the superman. The boss and every member of staff liked him including his teammate, Kunde. Everyone loved to br around Karl because he was not just good at his work but you have got to learn something from him in every conversation.

On a faithful day, the boss called the staff and gave them a project to work on individually and independently. He said the person that does the best work would be given a promotion.
Everyone went on with work so did Karl who everyone felt was going to be the winner. Kunde and Karl were not just teammates at work, they stayed together in the same apartment. As work continued, Kunde ran out of ideas and began to find away to know what Karl's work was all about. He eventually searched through Karl's work file and saw the blueprint of his work. He snapped it and kept it back. Kunde started working with the work plan and ideas on Karl's blueprint. Very close to the end of the project, Karl was admitted in the hospital as he fell ill. He couldn't continue with the project to the end.

The project continued despite the fact that Karl was critically ill. In the end, Kunde won the first position with the ideas blueprint. He was celebrated crowned and promoted. He broke the news to Karl at the hospital and Karl was happy for him.

Karl got discharged from the hospital after two months and resumed back to work. On getting to work he saw the portrait of the blueprint of the work he was doing before he fell ill. He was surprised and immediately, he asked around and got to know Kunde his housemate and teammate did it.

Since he knew the ability of Kunde, he questioned him and the replies he got were not pleasant, so he reported him. Investigation was made and Kunde was found guilty of stealing Karl's blueprint. Kunde was relieved of his duty as punishment for stealing a person's idea. He was charged to court by the company.

Plagiarism therefore, is the act of making use of someone's work without permission or proper acknowledgement.

According to Advanced English Dictionary, plagiarism is a piece of writing that has been copied from someone else's work and has being presented as one's work.
Plagiarism can be punishable by law.

There are different types of plagiarism and they include;
Direct, self, hired, borrowed, mosaic, collaboration, contributing author, aggregated, bibliography, outline, secondary source, accidental plagiarism. There are most common ones which i'll talk about here.
Source

Self plagiarism

This happens when a person reuses an important part of his or her previously published work without attribution. This is usually done in the academic section.
Source

Direct plagiarism

Also known as verbatim plagiarism. This occurs when someone copies the text of another word for word without the use of quotation marks and attribution, therefore fronting it as his or her own. It's also common in the academic section which is against the academic rules and ethics.
Source

Mosaic plagiarism

Mosaic Plagiarism occurs when a student borrows phrases from a source without using quotation marks, or finds synonyms for the author’s language while keeping to the same general structure and meaning of the original. Sometimes called “patch writing,” this kind of paraphrasing, whether intentional or not, is academically dishonest and punishable.
Source

Accidental plagiarism

Accidental plagiarism occurs when a person neglects to cite their sources, or misquotes their sources, or unintentionally paraphrases a source by using similar words, groups of words, and/or sentence structure without attribution.

Effects of plagiarism

It is punishable by law which can lead to suspension or dismissal. On Steemit platform, one can be banned from the community.
