WHAT IS PLAGIARISM?

Plagiarism is an unlawful act of copying someone's content, be it in any form and republishing it without giving due respect, like referencing the owner. Plagiarism could also be seen as a bad habit of stealing and taking things that doesn't belong to us.

It is also an act of capturing someone's work without requesting for permission. It's also an act of making oneself famous, popular and making money out of people's work without acknowledging them directly.

Some writers intentionally captures one point into their work without requesting for permission or making reference to the original owner. As a writer, irrespective of what you're writing about, always try and tag the owner of the point you're copying into your work inorder to make you mature.

This act is a punishment offense under the copyright law, it should be avoided by all means. Steemit have a high standard that does not accept plagiarism of any kind, therefore it has to be avoided.

We have different types of Plagiarism and I'm going to list them and also explain it out.

*TYPES OF PLAGIARISM

Self Plagiarism: This type of Plagiarism happens when the writer decides to submit his previous work or trying to combine a current work and the previous work without taking permission from the research moderator.

Verbatim Plagiarism: This type of Plagiarism is the act of copying someone's work or content directly, that is words to words.

Patchwork Plagiarism: This is an instant where the copied work is linked to the authors original work. An example of it is, taking a phrase from a source and placing it in your own work.

Complete Plagiarism: This occur when someone copy another person's work using our their name, and paying another content writer to write it for them.

Paraphrasing Plagiarism: This is a situation where a writer uses another person's work and changes a few words or phrase. It is a very common type of theft, funny enough a lot of people do not recognize it as a form of theft.

HOW TO AVOID PLAGIARISM?

There are methods to avoid Plagiarism in steemit and also other platform.

•Request for license before copying somebody's work into your own.

• Be sure to use plagiarism checker before submitting your work

•Make sure to research and add your ideas on any research work you are handling.

• Keep track of the sources you consult in your research work.

• Always remember to site the original author in your reference list.

• Include quotations.

WHAT IS CITATION?

Citation is simply the way of telling our readers that a certain material in our work has been taken from another person's work. Citation hereby gives our readers full detail about the original author we took their work from.

According to Scribbr, he explained 'and I quote'

Plagiarism has serious consequences and can be illegal in certain scenarios. While most of the time plagiarism in an undergraduate setting is not illegal, plagiarism or self-plagiarism in a professional academic setting can lead to legal action, including copyright infringement and fraud. Many scholarly journals do not allow you to submit the same work to more than one journal, and if you do not credit a coauthor, you could be legally defrauding them. Link

CONCLUSION

I advised everyone to always use their brain, be more creative in your thinking. Develop yourself to a point you will become a problem solver.

I have read and understood the steemit Etiquette on steemit community and I will do my best to embrace them
