This task educates us on many important things as described in the Master post Achievement 6 : Understanding Curation and Community.
A newbie gets to know about --
- Voting and Curation
- Witnesses on Steem, their Role
- Delegation
- Community
- Discord for communication (since Steemit doesn't have a messenger application yet)
- Notification Bot on Steem
Now let's move on to the Task Activities.
Q: Do you understand how voting and curation work in steemit?
Voting and Curation are related to each other.
Voting is the means of appreciating someone's post when it has been published. The exact term for Steemit is 'Upvoting'. For a newcomer, the voting power is set at 100% by default. When the user reaches 500 SP, he/she can adjust the voting power using a voter slider between 1% and 100%.
Obviously, a post voted with 50% Voting Power will earn less rewards than when it is voted with 100% Voting Power.
Every 100% vote casted uses 2% of the remaining voting power. Voting Power recharges by 20% each day.
Once a post is voted, the voter gives to the author some reward from his reward pool. This reward depends on the Steem Power the voter has in his account. This rewarding method is termed as Curation.
Q: What happens if you vote a post before 5 minutes mark after posting?
By default, Curation Rewards allocated are set such that 50% payout goes to the author and 50% payout goes to the curator. However there's a little thing to note regarding curation.
If a post is upvoted the moment of posting, 100% of the curation reward will remain in the rewards pool.
At 1 minute, the curator receives 20%, while 80% goes to the rewards pool.
At 2 minutes, the curator receives 40%, while 60% goes to the rewards pool.
At 3 minutes, the curator receives 60%, while 40% goes to the rewards pool.
At 4 minutes, the curator receives 80%, while 20% goes to the rewards pool.
If a post is upvoted 5 minutes (or later) after posting, 100% of the curation reward goes to the curator.
Q: Who will you vote for Steem Witness ? and Why?
As far as I am concerned, I would vote for @steemchiller and @justyy as Steem Witness because they are up there at the top doing amazing things for the Steem ecosystem. All the rewards that we earn are because of Steem witnesses like them.
Q: Which community will you join in Steemit, and why?
My native country is India, so naturally I would look to engage and learn more about the platform from my fellow Indians. That's why I joined Best of India.
I love to engage with Sports, especially Cricket and Football. So, I joined these amazing groups World of Football ⚽ and World of Cricket 🏏. The Admins and Mods there are doing a great job by regularly organising contests that see huge participation.
Apart from that I keep huge interests in History and Geography since my school academics. We are all a part of history and the world we live in is a part of geography. So I want to keep my engagement with these two beautiful topics. Hence I joined Steem Geography and History and Culture communities. These are the communities I am most engaged in. Apart from that I have subscribed to a few more communities recently.
