Compliments of the season I hope you're doing well ask of me. I'm great and it's my delight to welcome you all to the sixth edition of the African kitchen Show. This week I cook 🔥 something enticing, one of our favorite delicacies the catfish soup, we call it the fisherman soup because the soup is made up of seafood. Please permit me to seize this opportunity and apologize for not keeping up with the show, it was due to some extenuating circumstances. But I'm back for good!

Fisherman soup has always been one of my favorite soups. The soup is not only delicious but is highly nutritious and rich with various assorted ranging from periwinkles, and oysters to fresh shrimps 🦐 some people used to add 🦀 crabs too. Ahh you now understand why it's called fisherman soup, okay let's dive a bit more into its health benefits:

HEALTH BENEFITS OF CATFISH:

Catfishes are low in calories and sodium, rather it's full of healthy fats, proteins vitamins/minerals. It's a great source of nutrients like selenium, vitamin B12, and omega 3 and 6 fatty acids. This fish has a terrific nutritional profile. Research shows that eating catfish can help one improves mental and neurological conditions like memory loss, loss of attention deficit, depression, and hyperactivity disorder. It's good for the heart health. Just make catfish a part of your balance diet. Let's get into cooking!

INGREDIENTS:

  • Catfish, Onions, unshelled periwinkles, and oyster, fresh pepper, seasoning cubes, salt, palm oil, hot leaves, melon, ogbono seed (Irvingia) for thickening the soup, and Crayfish.

PREPARATION:

  • Cut the catfish into desire piece and boil water pour into it and use salt to wash the fish.

  • Wash your unshelled periwinkles and oyster and add to the uncooked fish.

  • Seasoning the meat with pepper, salt onions and seasoning cubes, cook it to be done and put it down.

  • Pound your crayfish and keep.

  • Put an empty pot on fire 🔥 pour palm oil inside when its hot and allow it heat for 2mins add salt and chopped onions to it, then add the cooked fish on the pot. Add two cups of water and add the grounded crayfish to it. Allow it to simmering.
  • Grind your ogbono seed (Irvingia) and add to the soup.

  • Add grind melon seet to the soup.

  • Chopped your hot leaves and onions and add to the soup.

  • Cook the soup for some time then put down the pot. Yeye the soup will be done!!!

This is catfish season, what are you waiting for? You need to have a taste of this soup, mine was finger 😋 licking just try it out. We used to eat this soup with swallow like Garri, or semovita.

We called fisherman soup in ibibio language "Efere ndek iyak" how do you call the soup in your language?
