A family is a unit of a community made up of a group of people who live together in the same house. Family can also be defined as a group of people or you can say that a family is a group of people who are closely related blood, by birth, by marriage or by adoption. Members of a family live together and function as a single unit. Family members living together bring about family Bond and togetherness.

Meaning of family bond

Family bond can be refers to the strong ties or connections that among family members. It refers also to the close relationship that is exists among members of a family. A family that can bond together is a family that is likely to be united forever.

Factors that contribute to Effective Family bond

Family bonding typically refers to the process of creating a close emotional relationship among the children, and between parents and children.
The following are some of the factors that contribute to family bonding:

❤ Love: This refers to strong feeling of affection for a friend or family members. Every member of the family has the need to love and to be loved.
Love in the family is expected to manifest in several ways. For example sharing of belonging among members and caring for one another. Love is also expressed through honesty, understanding, patient and forgiveness.

❤ Learning: This is the process of acquiring knowledge or skill. Families where values and morals are taught develop a strong interpersonal relationship among their members. Strong families manage and control their learning experiences in several ways. For example selection of appropriate television programmes to watch and guiding the children through the world outside the home to avoid being influenced negatively. Strong families learn from each others experiences.
So you have to continue doing those good things you have learnt from your family and do not allowed your friend to influence you negatively.

❤ Laughter Laughter strengthens the Bonds in a family. However laughing at each other in a negative way divide a family. For example, if a family member does something wrong, and all other members begin to laugh at him or her instead of correcting that person, this can bring division in such a family.

❤ Leadership: This is the ability to guide, direct or Influence People. Family members, usually the adults must assume the responsibility of leading the family. If no one assumes these vital role the family will become weak. Each family has its own unique set of rules and guidelines. These rules and guidelines are passed along from the adults to the children with firmness and fairness.

❤ Commitment: This refers to the willingness to give your time and energy do something that you believe in. Commitment creates the bases for strong family relationships with members being devoted to the well-being and the Happiness of other members.
In a family where members are committed some of the following features are found:

i. The family comes first in everything
ii Every member feels a sense of responsibility
iii. Each family member is precious
iv. Bad times do not destroy the relationship
v. Family members forgive each other

❤ Appreciation: Appreciation is an expression of gratitude. It is the understanding that something or someone is valuable or important. Members of strong family show and talk about the appreciation for one another. Appreciation is an important Factor in healthy families. Each family member is happy and has a sense of being part of the family when he or she feels appreciated.

Appreciation can be expressed in the following ways:

i. Looking for positive values instead of the negative ones among the family members, like trying not to find faults.
ii. Treating family members like a best friend.
iii. Showing love in all things everyday
iv. Praising their achievement and strengths of family members.
v. Gracefully receiving compliments as well as giving compliments of others.
vi. Accepting and appreciating criticism in good faith.

❤ Communication: This is the act and process of exchanging thoughts, intentions and information. Members of strong families work hard to develop good communication links among themselves and spend a lot of quality time talking with each other.
Communication is very important in every relationship. It is a means through which love and other emotions are expressed. It is very important to note that our communication has to be effective before strong bonds can the built.

Communication in our families can be effective when we:

i. Are open and honest
ii. Listen carefully without distractions
iii. Ask questions to know the meaning of messages that are not clear
iv. Trust one another
v. Deal with one issue at a time
vi. Attack the problem not each other
vii. Have an understanding attitude
