Movie Review - The Insidious

Into the movie insidious 1, movie starts with a family that just moved into their new house. Due to her son's illness, Renai Lambert must make a decision about what is best for him and his sister. They decide it would be better to move out of the city and get away from all of its bad memories. The movie takes place in California where they find an old Victorian house that is perfect for them due to the land surrounding it. It has a lot of room therefore Renai can start up her own garden. They later learn that this house was once an orphanage but was shut down because too many children were dying within their walls.

In this movie, Renai uses her knowledge from being a realtor to find a perfect house for her family. Her husband, Josh Lambert, is skeptical about the house but agrees anyway because he knows how much it means to his wife and children. They bring their son Dalton into the movie in a wheelchair. An accident happened in his life that almost took his life. In this movie, they have two children, Dalton and Madison. After she meets Dalton, she decides he will be her new best friend which annoys Renai because of all the things going on around the house.

Madison doesn't have many friends at school so when Renai tells Madison that she can make new friends at school she gets excited until Madison finds out there is a girl who is rude to her and won't let her join in with them. This movie has a lot of different scenarios that have nothing to do with each other going on at one time which changes the flow of the movie around many times.

In this movie, Josh works from home so he can keep an eye on his son no matter what. He also must look out for Madison when Renai is not around because she feels useless when dealing with Dalton's health issues. The movie changes from being about children dying from an orphanage into something more like The Exorcist then it pans back into its original idea again.

The movie gets really good after all of the sudden things start happening to Renai. She starts getting phone calls that are just static noise then she hears children laughing in the movie, movie behind her head one night while working on Dalton's school project with Madison. Renai confronts Josh about what he might be doing because now her kids are seeing things happen to them as well.

As you can see, this movie is a little confusing after certain events start happening but if you go slow enough it will make sense again. This movie also makes you want to watch the movie insidious 2 so you can find out what happens next. I would rate this movie a 4/5 because really good things were happening until everything got all discombobulated and didn't make sense anymore. This movie could have been much better if it had stayed on track with what was happening.

This movie went from one idea to another throughout the movie, which is normal for many horror movies, but many people like their horror movie to stay on one idea until it ends or to have pieces of the movie twist into the next idea. If you are someone who doesn't enjoy watching a horror movie that makes you guess what might happen next then this movie isn't for you. However, if you are open-minded and like to be surprised by a movie then I definitely recommend this movie. This movie could have been much better if they had just stuck with what made sense instead of throwing all these different ideas together in one movie. I would rate this movie 4.
