MY STEEM STORY

A Power House Creatives Initiative

Power House Creatives _night mode.png

Everyone has a story – and all our stories have something in common… we all started from nothing and knew nothing. People want to hear stories. They want to hear OUR stories — they want to know who we are, where we are from, what we are doing, who and what we love, what we have learnt and where we are going. People also want us to hear their story! Being a part of the Steem network is an individual journey for every single one of us and through this initiative we will share our stories not only with all who are already here – hopefully inspiring, guiding and informing them… but doing the same for everyone else in the world too. Through our stories we will prick the curiosity of those who have not yet arrived and illuminate and widen the already open doors to our one in a million blockchain.

We invite and encourage each and every one of you to participate and share your stories too! You can find the "how to" details at the end of this post.

MY STEEM STORY - BY @mgaft1

Where my Steem Journey began

I came to Steemit in August 2016. Before that, I was working for one corporation as a hitman, but not as a top-notch or anything, not like Jean Reno in "The Professional." I was sent to clean only the small fish and often in a sewer. So when someone told me that I can just post some make-belief stories and get paid for it, I thought "Wow! That's pretty cool!" Plus this was a great alibi too. When Police would ask me where have you been on such date and in such a time, I'd tell them "I was working on my Steemit post!"

My initial challenges & how I overcame them

At first, I had some trouble with the Markdown language. Damnit! I cannot do this, it cannot do that... One can understand my irritation as I was used to HTML. Boy or boy, you only understand how good you had it once you lose it. But hey, if a man can adjust living in a concentration camp, he can adjust to Markdown. After that, I had no problem and I was making some nice dough for a couple of years. The problem started later. I'd say around 2018.

Before I usually had 50-100 readers, but starting from 2018 they reduced to not more than 10. I could swear, no matter what I've done I couldn't break that barrier. As if someone shoots my readers! I mean I understand when you do this when it is your day job, but why did they choose me?

So once again, I am at the square one. Much worse than in 2016. But hey...Who said it should be easy?

My Steem blockchain knowledge

Blockchain knowledge? I mean I understand the general concepts. I know what a block means and I know what a chain means either. Never been interested in going deeper than that, nor did I felt the need.

My Steem favourites

After a while, I realized that I need to join some sort of a gangster group. Sure enough, when I joined Freewriterclub my Steemit life because better. Not that I got more views on my daily posts, but this club has writing contests and it allows me to participate in story writing, something that I actually enjoy doing, besides killing people. So, when I write for the contest, I get much more views and, at times, get Curie prize, God bless that!

My golden nugget advice

Advice? How can I give advice, if I am doing so shitty myself? Hold on. Let me think...I guess my advice is - don't be like me. Be friendly, communicable, love people, interest in what other people say and think. In other words, be a cheerleader, not a hitman.

My Steem hood & its peeps

I did meet some nice people, and had pleasant conversations. But I am not going to say who they are. Why? I am afraind my formet boss might have an intereast in them.

To Conclude…

And so that’s a wrap from me – My Steem Story!

I am tagging the following five people to join in too! It's because I am actually interested in who they are outside of Steem. A professional interest, if you wish...

FOUNDER OF NOTHING

What a great story, @mgaft1! Lovely greetings!

LOL. Thank you! Glad you liked it. )

We are neighbors, more or less ... I'm up in San Francisco!

Don't know yet if I can do that ... the rest of the week is CRAZY, but we'll see ... I appreciate the invite!

I figured you are somewhere close and thought it wouldn't hurt if you make a couple of extra

The contest is ended now and the winners are selected. To tell you the truth though they were chosen on a sentimental basis. If I were to select the best-written entry it would be yours. I just want you to know for what it's worth.

That is one of the kindest things anyone has ever said to me ... I did not have time this weekend to do the job justice owing to other commitments, but that kind of vote of confidence is rare, and I really appreciate it!

Thank you for telling your Steem story @mgaft1 🙏

Wow! Thank you @wonderwop! I really appreciate your help!

I love your sense of humor, @mgaft1! Well done. This was a great read. Clearly you have some innate or well-practiced writing skills! 😁

In all seriousness, I hope we have the opportunity to connect again as writers. Maybe I’ll have to finally get more involved with that great bunch of folks in the #freewrite house!

Hi Jayna,

Thank you! You know, your comment about #freewrite is extremely timely as I today I was discussing the #wewrite contest with @mariannewest and @carolkean

https://steemit.com/hive-161155/@mgaft1/thoughts-about-wewrite-contest

The problem is that in the absence of @zeldacroft no one wanted to step up to the plate and carry on the #wewrite contest banner. Yet, last week @owasco offered a prompt and the contest was very successful. Lot's of people participated.

https://steemit.com/freewritehouse/@owasco/a-pop-up-wewrite-contest

I don't want this initiative to extinguish.

So if you have someone in mind this would be great. I can give my two cents by choosing the appropriate daily posts as possible contest prompts, or whatever else.

By the way, I was hesitant to tell you this, but you welcome to send me your monthly entry for commenting if it is, in any way, beneficial to your cause. I only had difficulties feeling like a useless member of the club as everybody was helping me and I couldn't contribute anything worthy.

Yes, I was following that #wewrite contest. It was great! I wish I had more time for participating in things like that on Steem. I work a 60+ hour job. So I have stopped committing to things that take a lot of involvement.

In fact, I am taking two months off of writing stories for Write Club to get my head above water with work and take a week of vacation. But then I'll be back! For the record, I thought you did a marvelous job of commenting on stories. We all bring something unique to the table. The reason I love this group is because we don't have any harsh requirements or judgment. It's a come-as-you-are intiiative. :-)

60+ hours a week? Wow! That's like slavery. Hopefully, you'll be able to go back to a freer schedule soon.

Wow! Thank you muchly. You saved the life of at least one person. )))

I was working for one corporation as a hitman, but not as a top-notch or anything, not like Jean Reno in "The Professional."

Well DAAAMN! Now, let me just say that no matter what "grade" you were.... it is not every day that someone can say they met a real life hit man hahahahaha!!! Thats pretty darn cool! LOL!

I guess my advice is - don't be like me. Be friendly, communicable, love people, interest in what other people say and think. In other words, be a cheerleader, not a hitman.

WAAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! Love it :D

Thank you so much for sharing your story and for taking part in this initiative! It is a pleasure to meet you :)
