Thoughts about #WEWRITE contest

in Freewriters5 years ago

Hi Friends!

We just had a #wewrite contest compliments of @Owasco and it went with great success. Many people participated and everybody had fun writing and reading the entries of other people. I know I did.

How did it happen? @Owasco took one of her #freewrites, adjusted it a bit and voila!

Here is what I think. Every day @mariannewest offers us daily topics and many people participate. So, once in two weeks @mariannewest, @Owasco, or whoever else who is more organized and has the weight in this community could pick one of the existing #freewrites and make it the new contest prompt.

In fact, the contest prompt could even be selected as the #freewrite that gained the most votes.

What do you think?

I think it would be great if we had volunteers running this contest through the freewritehouse account. This was our flagship contest when we started the account and it was always meant to be a community effort. If you like to volunteer, let me know.

What about @Zeldacroft? Is she still sick? I am disorganized and would mess up such a great initiative. It has to be someone else. Maybe @Owasco? She did a splendid job with the current contest. Maybe @felt.buzz? He has the experience of running contests. So does @tristancarax or maybe @wakeupkitty . She also runs her own kind of a contest. Or maybe someone else will step up to the plate. :)

Zelda is in school and very busy - she might be back. And all the ones mentioned are already very busy. And that is the problem - running contests and providing community engagement takes a lot of time and not many, who want to step up :)
All good. it will happen.

Well, let me put it this way... If no one else will step up to the plate then I'll do it. :)

Is it possible to contact you privately in Discord? I'd like to discuss the conditions of running the contest. I selected several entries as possible prompts and would like to post them for votes. Once selected, we can go ahead with the next contest and I will try to do all the necessary footwork.

Yes!!

Thank you! The most elite Discord samurai is delivering you my friend's request. It will be from mgaft1#0718

A weekly contest is great, if we can share the workload the way Daily Prompt Delivery is divided up among five volunteers. These things always take up more time than we think they will. For me, 2 or 3 hours a morning were required for Prompt Delivery to whoever had posted a freewrite the day before. Not reading and commenting on each freewrite would save time, of course... the contests involve SBI and funds, donated by whoever offers them up. In the past @owasco donated 10 SBI or 10 steem per contest. Funds aren't self-replenishing.

The more community volunteers, the better. :)

Yes, something like this. I don't even care about commenting on each post. The other contestants would. And if making it every week is hard let's make it every two weeks.

Explain to me please what kind of workload it is. As far as I can see (and maybe nearsighted indeed) but all you need to do is to come up with the prompt, write down the conditions of the contest and then, at the end of it, determine the winners by random draw.

For example, here is the site that provides a random draw from any entered number
http://numbergenerator.org/randomnumbergenerator/1-10?sm_au=iTV88gnVjqJF0F4D

The prompt we can select from the daily posts. Anyone can do it, including me.

But maybe I am missing something?

I would suggest you find out by trying it yourself, but you already do read a lot of freewrite posts and comment on them, in depth, so maybe for you this would not be so time-consuming. I've found that hosting contests takes a lot of time reading, thinking, judging, upvoting, resteeming, posting results, making wallet transfers-- "busy work" -- which I never seem to be quick at.

Ahhhh, the random draw to determine winners - now that would save time, vs judging!

Random is how Zelda was doing

For me, the main obstacle isn't reading and commenting, but to put out a reward. This month I owe someone all my earnings. Therefore, I won't be able to offer any reward. Plus I don't know how to do it form the community account and I don't know what else besides the contest related text should go into the contest post. I usually see all kinds of other images, links.

What I could have done is to give all the money from the contest's main post to the winner or winners. But shouldn't the reward be declared upfront?

Ok, so if you're going to do all the work, I'll sponsor a prize of 10 steem or SBI units every 2 weeks which I can transfer to the freewrite house account .

Great! Let me chose the prompt.
