Estoy realmente feliz, porque cada día son más los steemitas que se unen a esta iniciativa de "Arte y Escritura", con ensayos, relatos, poemas y reflexiones cien por ciento libres de plagio. Y para celebrar mi dicha les traigo para esta edición 15 a Paul Gauguin, quien nació un día como ayer 7 de junio de 1848, hace 174 años.

Como ya he dicho Eugéne Henri Paul Gauguin nació el 7 de junio de 1848 en Francia (París), hijo del periodista antimonárquico Clovis Gauguin y de Alina Chazal, hija de la socialista y feminista Flora Tristán, que pertenecía a una familia influyente de Perú.

Existen rumores que señalan que Simón Bolívar mantuvo relaciones con la madre de Flora Tristán, por lo que este sería bisabuelo biológico de Gauguin, mas esto nunca se confirmó

Cuando se dio en París el golpe de Estado contra Napoléon III, la familia de Gauguin emigró a Perú, pero su padre falleció en el trayecto, por lo que su madre, su hermana y él, de apenas 18 meses, pasaron mucho trabajo al llegar, siendo acogidos por su tío en Lima. En tierras limeñas vivió Gauguin hasta los siete años, cuando su madre decidió regresar a Orléans (París).

Paul aprendió a hablar francés, aunque su lengua principal y preferida era el español. Estudió en escuelas locales, en internados católicos, en la escuela preparatoria naval y en la marina mercante. Practicaba el boxeo y la esgrima. Sirvió en la marina francesa por dos años. En 1867 murió su madre cuando él se encontraba en la India.

Regresó a París en 1871 donde consiguió un empleo como Corredor de bolsa. Su éxito económico fue significativo. Sin embargo, en 1802 la Bolsa de París se derrumbó y esto tuvo repercusiones en los ingresos de Gauguin, quien decidió dedicarse por completo a la pintura.

En 1873 contrajo nupcias con la danesa Mette-Sophie (1850-1920); ambos tuvieron cinco hijos. Pero el matrimonio se resquebrajó debido a los problemas económicos de Gauguin y a su dedicación completa a la pintura.

A partir de 1885 Gauguin se convirtió en un gitano que viajaba desde París a Martinica, a Tahití y a Islas Marquesas.

Incursionó en varios movimientos artísticos: postimpresionismo, simbolismo, sintetismo, impresionismo y primitivismo.

Sus temas preferidos fueron el retrato, la pintura de paisajes, figuras, escenas de género y bodegón.

A continuación les presentaremos tres de sus obras para que usted escoja la que más los motive a escribir. La primera se llama: "Tres niñas bretonas bailando" (1888), la segunda, "Jinetes en la playa" (1902) y la última, "De dónde venimos? ¿Quiénes somos? ¿Adónde vamos? (1897).

He ventured into several artistic movements: Post-Impressionism, Symbolism, Synthetism, Impressionism and Primitivism.

His favorite subjects were portraiture, landscape painting, figures, genre scenes and still life.
