Support aircraft which completed missions in the Falklands War:

England: Hawker Siddeley Vulcan

The Avro Vulcan(later called Hawker Siddeley Vulcan) is a singular aircraft. The fact that it didn´t have a tail(in early designs) and that its profile was similar to Germany´s Horten 229 of WWII makes us think in that the English, like its partner USA also benefited from the captured nazi aircraft designs. However, the Avro company, creator of the Vulcan, didn´t have experience with Delta wings, so they built smaller scale models for testing, but the test pilot Eric Esler died when the first one of these models crashed.
Crew: 5x / Length: 97.08 feet
Height: 26.24 feet / Wingspan: 99.40 feet
Wing area: 330,2 m² / Empty weight: 81,888 lbs
Maximum takeoff weight: 170,000 lbs
Engine: 4x Bristol Olympus 104 turbojet
Maximum speed: 645 mph
Combat range: 2,591 miles
Service Ceiling: 55,774 feet

Armamento:
* 21x  1000 lbs(454kg) bombs each.
* 1x Nuclear Blue Danube bomb.
* 1x Nuclear Violet Club 400kt bomb.
* 1x Nuclear U.S. Mark 5 bomb supplied in Project E
* 1x Nuclear de 400kt Yellow Sun Mk1 bomb
* 1x Nuclear de 1.1Mt Yellow Sun Mk2 bomb
* 1x Nuclear Red Beard gravity bomb
* 1x WE.177B parachute retarded nuclear gravity bomb

*. Quantity of planes: 2
*. Lost planes: 0

It was the first aircraft designed to carry the Blue Steel missile, which was England´s primary nuclear deterrent until they started operating submarines armed with nuclear missiles in the late 60s. As byproduct of its singular design, it had a low cross radar signature due to its flat wing. The only combat missions that this bomber ever flew were in the Falklands War. They flew out of the base in Ascencion island, refuelling mid air in their trip of more than 4000 miles. In contrast to Argentina, the English did have nuclear weapons, but used only conventional ones during the war.

England - Boeing CH-47 Chinook

The Boeing CH-47 Chinook is a heavy lift transport helicopter, which is also used to transport troops. In the Falklands they acted as second line provisioning and supply to the maintenance crews. Others were sent to the front lines to captain the troop landings there. These Chinooks were disassembled during their trip from the UK and reassembled later in only a few hours(it was the first time this feat was achieved while travelling in the sea).
Crew: 3 / Length: 98.75 feet
Length of the fuselage: 52 feet
Fuselage width: 12.40 feet
Rotor diameter: 60 feet
Height: 18.70 feet / Empty Weight: 24,577 lbs
Maximum takeoff weight: 50,000 lbs
Powerplant: 2x Lycoming T55-GA-714A turboshaft

Maximum Speed: 196 mph
Combat Radius: 230 miles.
Service Ceiling: 20,000 feet
Rate of climb: 1,522 ft/min.

Armament:
* Up to 3 defensively mounted 7.62mm machineguns in
diverse points in the fuselage.
*. Quantity of choppers: 4
*. Choppers lost: 3

When the Atlantic Conveyor wich ferried them was hit and sank by an Argentinean Exocet missile fired from an Argentine Dassault Super Étendard plane, one of the Chinooks, of callsign "Bravo November", had already been dispached minutes earlier to ferry a load from HMS Glasgow, and it managed to land sucesfully on the HMS Hermes, earning the nickname "The Survivor". The rest of the Chinooks that were left on the Atlantic Conveyor´s deck were engulfed by flames and couldn´t be saved(they were destroyed without their crews).

Video of a Chinook flying over the Falklands after the war, in 1985:

Argentina: Boeing 707

Not having any AWACS(special early warning planes equipped with big and advanced specialized radars with the task of detecting air targets at great distances), Argentina had to improvise means to precisely detect the british fleet and relay its coordinates to combat pilots. The airforce commandeered several Boeing 707 from civilian airlines and they were used, specifically their meteorological Bendix radar was modified to detect objectives on the surface of the sea. These recon maneuvers were very dangerous since the 707s were huge unmisseable targets in the sky and had no means of defense or maneuverability to dodge anything thrown at them. Want to know how they did it? We will talk about that sometime in the following episodes.
Crew: 3x minimum
(although during some recon missions they
flew with about 15 people)
Length: 145 feet/ Wingspan: 130 feet
Empty Weight: 127,000 lbs
Maximum takeoff weight: 258,000 lbs
Engines: 4x Pratt & Whitney JT3D-3
Cruise speed: 607 mph at sea le3vel.
Operating range: 4,163 miles

In the following posts of this saga I will keep detailing the support aircraft(we have a few more episodes of combat material description to go).

The Falkland war was an interesting one to say the least.
One of the smallest wars of modern time.

Yup, and the technological disparity of the 2 nations that fought it was abysmal too, which made it more interesting...
