Pelabuhan Tanjung Priok, Batavia, 1800
Sejak awal berdiri, Batavia adalah kota pelabuhan, mulai bernama Sunda Kelapa hingga sekarang menjadi Jakarta. Letaknya yang strategis menjadikan Batavia sebagai kota pelabuhan yang ramai, sehingga pada abadke-19 dibangunlah pelabuhan Tanjung Priok yang masih bertahan hingga kini.
Foto diatas mempelihatkan aktivitas di Pelabuhan Tanjung Priok, Batavia pada tahun 1880. Terlihat beberapa kapal bersandar dan gudang-gudang untuk proses bongkar-muat kapal. Pelabuhannya terlihat masih sangat sederhana.
