Helpie’s Homesteading Curation Report

Fourth Edition

helpie-homesteading_01.png

Welcome one and all to the weekly Helpie Homesteading Curation Report, where we feature some amazing content creators coming out of the Homesteading Community. Our goal is to find those individuals that are producing quality content and raise them up to help them grow. We do this by featuring them here, to introduce them to all of you lovely people. We hope this helps them be seen by a larger audience, therefore getting them the recognition we think their wonderful content deserves. Then, because we think it is important to give credit where credit is due, we split this reports payout between the featured authors. We believe this is the only fair way to curate these individuals content that they have worked so hard on. We hope that if you choose to use these blogs in a post of your own, that you will join us in paying them for their content as well.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for great content! We want to reward those individuals that are taking their time and energy to add value to the platform through their high quality content. That’s it, think quality over quantity. We will be collecting them through the week and posting our favorites here each Monday. We will be starting a special edition on the last Monday of each month, so stay tuned!

First Things First: What is Helpie?

Helpie is a new and unique educational community within Steemit, designed to help users that are creating quality content grow on the platform. We do this through a variety of ways including;

  • Lessons designed to help users navigate the steemit network and teach them how to get the most out of it. (ex. GINAbot Tutorial, Growing Your Following On Steemit, and Markdown Challenge

  • Daily Steemit related trivia and contests

  • Mentorship from established Steemit users in all different categories

  • A place to discuss ideas, collaborate with other members, and build your personal community

  • Daily upvote from Helpie for members

  • Weekly Curation of great quality content (We are starting with homesteading, but hope to add other categories in the future).

Helpie is an invite only community, but anyone can participate in the daily trivia questions. You are not required to upvote Helpie’s posts to participate. This initiative is not meant to be a vote for vote operation; it’s an educational tool only. If you would like to be considered to join @Helpie as a minnow in training, please consider joining PALnet/MSP and participating in the community. We have scouts constantly looking for the right minnows to support, and they will reach out with a private invitation.

This Week's Featured Steemians

How To Make Sun-Dried Tomatoes By @Birdsinparadise

First up this week is @Birdsinparadise who joined Steemit in February of this year. She shares her delicious and healthy recipes with us through her beautiful photos encouraging us to make more items ourselves rather than buy them from the store, where they most likely include questionable ingredients. She really had me hooked when she posted on how to use almonds to not only make almond or nut butter, but also how to make your own almond milk and then, how to use the scraps from that process to make almond meal to use in place of flour in baking. I personally think that these skills are essential for homesteading and I am so excited she is sharing them with us. Her posts are written in a very personal way which makes them very engaging to me…I am always looking forward to what she will do next.

Her featured post today is a step by step guide on how to make your own Sun-dried Tomatoes. She doesn’t just stop there though; she actually gives us some really interesting cultural history behind the tomato…which quite frankly I have never even heard of before! I really enjoyed reading her tutorial and she has made it so easy to follow along. I believe this post not only helps us to save money by making our own sun-dried tomatoes, but it also gives us an amazing way to preserve those extra tomatoes from the garden as well. I am really looking forward to giving this a try, and hope you are as well.

Her other recent posts include Smoothie| Another Healthy Dose of Liquid Sunshine, a delicious smoothie recipe with some surprising ingredients and a good reason try think outside of the box when thinking about them and Fish Fuddle, a fun look at a recent trip to South Florida’s Collier-Seminole State Park

How A Little Pygmy Goat Helped Us Find Our Dream Homestead By @Blackberryrun

Next up we have @Blackberryrun, who just joined Steemit this month. @Blackberryrun is brand spanking new to Steemit but has already impressed me with his ability to tell us his story in such an intriguing way. He tells us how he never even intended to become a Homesteader, but that it just began as a small garden in his urban backyard, where he found peace after a stressful day of work. He says “For an hour every day I was lost among the plants, weeding, debugging and picking. I didn’t realize it at the time, but I was already Homesteading.” That line really got me, I also find myself lost in the garden and truly at peace and away from the worries of the world. Sometimes a random event or experience can take us down a path we never expected to go, for @Blackberryrun that random event happened to occur at a petting zoo. While there with his family, a sweet little pygmy goat won him over and planted a seed that lead him down his Homesteading journey. I believe many of us, like @Blackberryrun, have had this same experience…it’s not something we knew we wanted to do necessarily. It starts as just a small seed that was planted deep within us, by some random event, that continues to grow and take shape leading us down our own unique paths. His post is beautifully written, touching and at times comical…I think it is something we can all relate to, and I believe sharing these journeys helps others to start down their own paths as well.

His other recent posts include 10 Things To Do Before Buying Your Dream Homestead, that is full of useful tips and information and At Day’s End, our first look at his beautiful poetry.

Rocky Bottom Sampling @ Mira Creek – Say What? By @qberryfarms

Now I would like to introduce you to @qberryfarms, who also joined Steemit this month. Her name might seem somewhat familiar; she is after all the wife of @qberry, who is pretty well known among the Homesteading community. I always enjoy when a couple shows us both sides of the Homesteading life, and these two are no exception. Even though she just began her Steemit adventure @qberryfarms , she has impressed me (as well as many other) from the start with her well written posts that include gorgeous photos and wonderful tutorials. She is definitely someone to watch, so stop what you are doing and go follow her right now!

Her featured post today is look into a really amazing and interesting experience she was able to take part in near their Homestead recently. She tells us that it started when one of their neighbors called and asked if they wanted to help with a Rocky Bottom Sampling of Mira Creek, to which she replied “Say what?” I have to admit, when I first read her post title, I had the same reaction. I had never heard of this activity before and ended up finding it completely fascinating. She does a wonderful job of explaining to us the organization behind the event and their goal in monitoring the water quality of the local water sources. Then, she takes us through her day with detailed photos and a play by play of each step that was taken in the study. It was a fun and educational read that has lead me to look into some similar activities in my own area. Thank you @qberryfarms.

Her other recent posts include Propagating House Plants, a look into how she propagated one of her favorite plants and an update on how they are doing. It also includes some tips that have been passed down from her Momma, which I think is really special and It’s The Small Things, a fun post about the joy of cooking on an open fire.

This concludes the fourth edition of Helpie’s Weekly Homesteading Curation Report. We need your help in lifting these wonderful Steemians, so please go and read the featured Steamians blogs and show them the love that their hard work deserves. We believe it is important for us to lift up good content on Steemit to help further grow the platform as a whole.

We are constantly searching for good content that deserves to be in the spotlight. If you come across a Homesteading post that you believe is worthy of promotion in this weekly report, feel free to tag @llfarms in the comments or send a DM message over discord.

Thank you so much for reading and Happy Homesteading,
