A drug-resistant super gonorrhea is on the rise
Untreatable cases of the STD gonorrhea are happening all over the world
It is believed that this new untreatable strain is a result of gonorrhea bacteria left in the throat after oral-sex
Gonorrhea in the throat looks like strep throat, so doctors prescribe standard antibiotics to treat it
The gonorrhea bacteria then mixes with those antibiotics and becomes antibiotic-resistant
Currently, the antibiotics usually used to treat gonorrhea, and ceftriaxone are becoming ineffective
which means the bacteria has evolved to to resist them
Gonorrhea is spread through sexual contact with infected partner
Symptoms in man include a burning feeling when urinating and painful testicles
Women do not always show symptoms, but when they do they include painful urination as well
Left untreated, the bacteria could spread to other part of the body and become life threatening
3 extensive drug-resistant gonorrhea infections have been reported in france, spain and japan
In july, the WHO called these drug-resistant cases a "serious situation".
